I'm sure you'll be very happy with the RC version of this model. Find a small slope with a tiny headwind and you will fly for hours on the smallest battery.
@Watchingthevideos993 ай бұрын
The RC version actually has quite a bit of time on it. I use a very light hi start right in my yard. Flys quite well. It's funny to hear. Because of the balsa fuselage, the linear servos are quite amplified.

This design looks very similar to the Leprechaun designed in the 1940s as a large scale free flight model and currently available as RC model. I have the Dane RC leprechaun v2 and it flies slow and stable but mostly I just love the vintage style.

I just built two of these over the weekend. They fly great. One for me and one for my daughter. I glued one page to two layers of brown paper, becuase...carbon paper. It worked great, easy to trace. Not sure how everyone elses blananced but I used two 1/12 oz fishing sinkers in the nose and it's perfect.

If I built one of those, I'd probably have to either put a hook on it for catapult launch, or a finger brace for more vigorous hand launches. I'd certainly put in a finger box for launching on the R/C version...
@Watchingthevideos99Ай бұрын
My larger 30 inch version is launched with a light hi-start with 1/16th rubber. I'm not sure this model would take well to a hard hand launch but I guess you could try. It's not something I would consider doing with mine. Thanks for watching.

I made that exact plane millions of years ago. I still remember that "For the Tenderfoot" I never got it to fly well. I think the rudder is too small. Same on the elevator. Too small.

The tail areas seems to work OK for me. It's quite the glider. Herb Clukey published many successful designs. Maybe give one another try! Thanks for watching.
@cluelessbeekeeping13223 ай бұрын
@@Watchingthevideos99 I believe the fuselage is still floating about at my mom's place. But----as I remember it, (if it is same glider), it didn't have the bottom portion. My dad may have made that for me vs. me making it (I was a little kid). You sure did stir some memories sir! Thanks!

Great little video and plane. Any reason why the rear wing is set under the fuselage on the plans yet in the video it is set on top of it?
@Watchingthevideos993 ай бұрын
Thank you. If you look at the plan, under the rear side view near the tail, the plan shows "STABLIZER" and points to stabilizer part and its location in the top and side view. On the side view, it shows the stabilizer mounted to the top part of the fuselage. You'll also see that location in the photos with the article. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the comment. I've flown the larger version quite a bit, but I don't really have video and need to get some footage. The radio can be seen in one of the photos at the end of the video. Two thoughts: One, those old magazines are an absolute treasure. Second, is the repositionable spray really the post-it note juice in a jar that it looks like? I’ve gotta get some of that. That’s a lovely glider.

I was thinking of building the small one and putting one of my Deltang RX's and an actuator for rudder. But then it is so light, it would probably get lost in a thermal, even with full rudder. Oh well. It sure is cute though.

That would be very cool. Maybe on a small ridge in light winds rather than thermalling. Fun stuff! Thanks for watching.

For a novice builder like me that looks like a straight forward build. Nothing to complicated. Is this a towline glider? I was thinking of enlarging it and voila you did. Would love to see both fly.
