Ohio policies have not been kind to Indian people and there is a HUGE misunderstanding of Indian lineage. I often hear " We thought most of the Indians were dead. " or---( brace yourselves) ---" We thought there were no Indians until you got to the other side of the Mississippi." ---that's the truth---sad to say---Indian spirits reside here and in some places they make themselves known.

HiGeWikiMeSi NetaSeFo . Hello I'm Shawnee We continue with our traditions and we learn from other tribes as well. Our traditions are not lost they are hindered, but not forgotten and lost. We are still here and continue to face the things in this place called life. Through generational traumas and overcoming many things by our own government, we still exist today as Shawnees. We now live in Oklahoma because our people had to relocate there and leave Ohio along with many other tribes that once were in Ohio. The original people even went as far to Sabias , Mexico where we had our population decreased due to smallpox. I'm a decedent from the Shawnees and Creeks who were both once apart of the Mound builders. Our history goes even further back than Ohio we once lived in Pennsylvania and Indiana as well. Overall I'm living proof that Shawnees are not this methological peoples we are still here. Hiteto NeWeKiNi SiWinWike Nelina PaLoWeNePimaFPa NesiPikeGepa! Hello, My Friend WE Are Shawnee, We have been Away, We are Going Home!

I’ve been reading some early Ohio history lately. We live in an area that once had a strong Shawnee presence. Also River Indians ,remains have been accidentally found in more modern times.Right here in our area and surrounding areas. A local man has written some books sold here with old stories of the town. In one story, a man claimed he met an Indian who travelled back, from Oklahoma, to revisit land he had settled on before driven out. I’ve never experienced a Native American presence in our area but have on the eastern side of Ohio. Where I am now,Swiss and German history is touched upon but not enough about the Natives who once lived here.

Re-enactors have done very good work here over a span of thrirty-five years or so to restore some semblance of what transpired here 1778-1780
