Why did you use a covering dye instead of a black penetrating dye + black cream? The brown leather was undamaged and would look very nice if it had a porous surface! And as a result, now the leather looks like plasticine :(

Most likely the options and prices were discussed with the customer, and they opted for the matte black paint. All parts of a restoration are discussed with clients, so this is what the client preferred

I believe it's called ”茶心”ーThe brown-based dying technique. it's not the most sophisticated technique but you can enjoy aging leather - it's popular in Korea and Japan

Should've went with a penetrative dye instead, it looks like Faux Leather and will easily scratch off.

IMHO not the best restoring from Vetiver. Maybe keeping the shoe in the natural colour just cleaning??? If not then trying to dye in brown as similar as the original one or maybe the black penetrating dye option as @Alex-r7d8n said. What about replace the laces instead of dying? Personally the natural brown after the clean up looks beauty (ok, some stains...) Is this restoring made by the same person?

beautiful execution and attention to detail. It's not the direction I would have taken them, but I'm sure the customer is happy with, and wanted that look.

And I think it 's not a good idea sanding the leather soil that way, it can damage the original stiching. If you sand the soil with a brand new sandpaper that way sure the stichings gone
