The seat and belt manufacturer should be proud too. I know the cage is like 85% of the safety. But the seat, belts and the rest of the safety equipment did their jobs. Sucks to see it go but glad Scott was okay, we all know he will be back to beat the new diesel record.

Upside down in Old Smokey, all covered in snow Thanking his maker, the welds did hold. He stepped on the pedal, but nothing was there A bone jarring impact then plenty of air. The ground came up quickly, He thought it might hurt, He hoped that his harness and helmet would work. The truck started started rolling, it gave him a scare, It rolled forever away up there. He came to a stop on an ice covered ledge, The career of Smokey came to it's end. Apologies to the Weavers and Gene Autry. Bro, very glad it wasn't worse. Looking forward to seeing the new ride.

@BikingVikingHH
@BikingVikingHH Жыл бұрын
He didn’t lose his brakes, that’s just the elaborate story he made up for clipping the corner early. You can clearly hear his right foot was on the throttle, not the brakes, which he explained by saying his pant leg was caught on the throttle pedal while he was placing his foot on the brakes?! Was he wearing a racing suit or Jnco jeans 😂

They wait until after the race and just use a lot of winch cables. I saw a car go off Evo corner a year after it got it's name, and they shut the race down long enough to get the driver out and emergency response teams back to their spots, then continued as if nothing happened.

the vidoe is awesome may i ask in the next q&a vid how do you manage to keep the tyres hot enough to work when the bottom of pikes peek is sunny and the top has snow the road surface must be so cold at the top for your race tyres ? a testament of your building ability you walk away to rebuild her
@KareemFloat
@KareemFloat Жыл бұрын
There's a lot of really positive adjectives that i can and do apply to this build, however "SAFE" is the most important. a roll cage is that one bit of safety equipment that we all have and need but hope to never use, though this run was going really well, it suddenly wasn't.. then it was all well again as you got to walk away a bit shaken AND stirred, but also alive. Major props to your cage design, and your welding abilities, might have lost several hundred thousands in equipment and man hours, but all that investment couldn't get you back to your family if had a different outcome. Make the next build just as adjective filled like this one was, but keep the most important one at the forefront once again.

That moment, when a Truck is doing a very poor impersonation of an Aeroplane, and no corners have been cut on the safety equipment,... This is a lesson many many people need to learn, the 'I'm Ok' at the end shows just how much value there is in doing the gear correctly.

Is there any way to determine the cause of the brake failure?
@vehementshortfuze4820
@vehementshortfuze4820 Жыл бұрын
Probably, but from what I can tell old mate is a bit sensitive to criticism and since its almost certainly his fault the brakes failed I doubt he'll publicly post what exactly the cause was even if it can be determined. Not everyone in motorsport is like Stephen Papadakis or Steve Morrison; Guys who actively post explicitly detailed videos outlining what went wrong when their stuff fails. This is just my own speculation but I'm guessing it was a mechanical brake failure of some kind that resulted in a total loss of hydraulic pressure. A seal blowing perhaps, or maybe a line getting caught in a suspension spring and getting pinched/broken. Who knows? I think its very unlikely to be heat related (in other words brake fade). I think this because the pedal went all the way to the floor with reportedly zero effort required and there was a sudden decrease in braking performance. Brake fade is not like flipping a switch; Friction coefficients are not linear, but curved. As brakes get hotter the amount of friction they produce steadily decreases, but not all at once. As such they don't just stop working like that but simply become much less effective. There's still pressure in the system so the pedal stays firm, it just feels like its not doing anything, even thought it actually is still working it just takes longer to slow the car down due to the reduced friction. Even if the brake fluid boiled the system would still be sealed and compressing the gas would still provide some pedal stiffness, it would not just drop to the floor. Furthermore, as far as I know the car is basically the same as in previous years and such extreme brake fade hasn't occurred before, so its unlikely for such a dramatic difference in performance from one year to the next. I think its far more likely to be a loss of fluid pressure caused by some kind of leak/mechanical failure. Was it poor maintenance? Did the line rub against a damper or get caught in a coil spring? Was there some kind of manufacturing defect that was out of old mates control all together? Did he perhaps cause damage to it somehow during the run? Perhaps by cutting corner apexes too severely and dipping a wheel off? Honestly I have no idea, but I do feel confident it wasn't fade.

I hope you read this comment, and can answer something for me. The whole run your line was so good on all the turns. And then that one particular turn, the one you crashed, you just threw it right into the inside corner, right into the rocks intentionally. At least that's how it looks in the video. And I'm wondering was it a mechanical failure? Did you throw it into the rocks trying to slow down? Driver error? It's just so obviously intentional looking, that I'm curious what happened in that moment?
