Currently own a BW132. Great overall pedal yak for saltwater. Having had many hours on a friend’s Autopilot, I can tell you I could never replace the BW. But instead, I would ADD one. The best thing to me about the AP is spot lock. And as you’ve mentioned, it’s not entirely precise. It is good to very good imo. Tide against wind, it gets sketchy at times. Big swells and wind as well. When the conditions allow and its locked well, then it’s untouchable. Having owned multiple kinds of pedal yaks, I cant see myself replacing any one them and having just an AP. I understand that’s a luxury for some, but owning both would be my ideal choice. But if I could only pick one, it’s going to be the BW132 (or other pedal yak).

Completely agree. The AP is going to worth its weight in gold spot locking on the reefs off of Navarre beach but the PDL is so versatile it really can’t be beat when comparing it’s ability to handle all types of fishing.

Great video! I’m considering the same 2 kayaks! Got a few months to decide. Hopefully pick up a used one in the spring. Thanks

Thank you. You won’t be disappointed in either of them. If you can, pick up a newer Predator or Bigwater. They have an extra rod holder up front and better gear tracks.

I love my predator pdl and I have had all the major yaks and the predator pdl for me is the best. My friend sold his minn kota predator to get the pdl. Just couldn't beat the control.
@ActiveDutyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
The PDL is amazing. It is the best for offshore for sure. The hull design makes it perfect for cutting through waves.

loving my BW132... it's not perfect but there's nothing out there (IMO) that would make me change it. It's so fast and turns on a dime.
@ActiveDutyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Man, I love the 132! It is my go to yak for sure. When I want to sit on the reefs the AP is untouched, but the 132 can hold up nicely.

Turns on a dime? I have one and I definitely disagree on that comment. That's the one thing I hate about my BW 132 PDL.
@ActiveDutyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Shoot, you point that motor 90 degrees from its original heading and it will turn you pretty dang fast.
@experimentalfishing1292 Жыл бұрын
@@XploreAz maybe the rudder is not well ajusted. If turn in a circle, It's like 10 feet across. My girlfriend has a Sportsman 120 Pdl, that thing deffinately does not turn on a dime.

Which of old town is the least afraid of salt water? I want to choose for a very salty sea...
@ActiveDutyOutdoors11 ай бұрын
Definitely the PDL. The auto pilot is still good in salt but there are a lot more components that can corrode.

I gotta ask how old you guys are? I’m 57. Is this something that, at my age, I should be weary of? I’m in reasonably good shape.

@@ActiveDutyOutdoors I’m purchasing that Auto Pilot 136. I picked up a trailer for it. Most of the time I’ll be backing it down. Mostly inland lakes. Can’t beat the stability of the 136 👍

Can you put two people on this boat?

Two adult or 1 adult and 1 child? I have seen people take their kids in a seat attachment in the rear. There would not be enough room for 2 adults.

I don't understand your opening comment about how the Autopilot will get you places you'll never even think about getting with a peddle kayak as long as you have enough battery. With the peddle you have human power that is only limited by your physical fitness. Maybe there's something i am missing.
@ActiveDutyOutdoors10 ай бұрын
You’re absolutely right. I think I was pretty excited about having the Autopilot when I made this video. What I should have said was that the AP is more efficient getting places and staying in place when you get there. Spot lock is its biggest advantage over the Big Water, at least here in Navarre where we have current and swells. Once I get the AP to our artificial reefs I can hit the lock button and stay on that spot until I get tired of catching fish. The BW I get blown off a hot spot and have to continually move back to it.

Hobie PA 360 Once learned will out run every PDL head to head. At my age I have out run every TM mounted 4.6mph with the 360 drive out to 1/2 mile. Spot lock is cool but its a yak and not a Ranger.
