I’m an engineer in the field of aerospace and I really like the base design of the airframe, as a twin engine it would fly great and looks a lot like the OV-10 Bronco. Weapons placement and the back motors not so much but hey this is just fun.

Also curious if this game would allow you to make a modern combat airship and cargo airship. A modern combat design could be used as a massive air superiority Zeppelin. It parks over a desired objective area you wish to lock down and is covered in tons of CWIS, positions for shoulder fired MANPADs, and guided missile turrets. Automatic targeting systems and radar coverage will inform them the moment a target enters their AO.

The US Marines modified two OV-10 Broncos in the 1980s into the YOV-10D "NOG" 'night operation gunship' and it was equipped with a M97 gun turret - which fires 20x102mm calibre rounds

I like it. A lot. It's funny that the maverick is so slow you can fire it, and fly the plane to the target, make your sweep, destroy target with guns before the maverick makes it there 😂 it gets there and sees a charred tank and wonders "what did I miss?"

The most intuitive problem is that the tail rudder is too small. Secondly, in the recent war, the reality shows that the threat of individual air defense to this direct anti-infantry aircraft is too great, and perhaps the future will be the era of patrolling missile projection platforms.

I loved this plane, I posted a similar crosssection vector in your server of a P2V which I names the P2V-8FH Super Neptune which had like a 20mm gatling on the belly that could be replace the 2x12.7mm turret in the rear. Could also carry either 2x50mm, 2x57mm, or a single 77mm for antishipping mission or for screwing the casual frigate or DD. Came with radar rangefinder, 1950’s-ish Night vision, Could bring 4 torpedoes and is faster than even the japanese P-2

I imagine the dorsal turret being rearward facing usually as no pilot would like to have their own cannon pointing their own heads. Otherwise this is a really interesting take and a nice Spectre/Bronco mash-up.

Umm... if you put the biggest gun on the tail, wouldn't the recoil cause all kinds of yaw if fired out either side? If you put it at center mass and center lift, it mitigates that force.

God I love gun ships. Hnestly why there havent been more turreted airplanes is beyond me. Especially when we have had ballastic computers that can help you aim at the area you want. Basically extended mobile artillery. You know if I were the US military? I would be investing in The Expanse like Point Defense Cannons, for use on vehicles and planes. Imagine trying to fire at this or a bomber with a missile, and bam. Your missile gets shot down by the automstic turret. Eventually make them quick enough to shoot down even shells. Basically make the most compact targeting radar I could, and tie it to whateved primary of secondary gun the platform has.

Was kinda hoping you would go the route of building a modernized/futuristic Grumman Tracker style of aircraft and equipping it for gunship duties. This design feels quite similiar to those you've already built as heavy fighters/interceptors in Prop Punk. I also feel that for flight efficiency and areodynamic reasons you should make some fairings that cover the cannons from the slipstream when they are not in use, on the current design that is, rather ruins the lines of the aircraft and despite their angular design, would likely create a lot of unwanted or unnecessary drag.

One of the great things about the AC-130 is the ability to troubleshoot weapon jams and change ammo types while in-flight.. also, you can match the range and ammo capacity of a cargo plane... Why not trying to make it stealthly? Maybe I giant B-2 with crew inside? Lol

The massive flying cruise liner you made got me thinking. The observation area looks like an AWACS. It would be cool to see you make a converted version intended to act as a nuclear powered mobile command craft, with many CWIS style defensive turrets on it to protect from missiles. It would be always on the move, patrolling the airspace of its country, and most likely have the air to air refueling as well as docking for smaller aircraft. Kinda like taking airforce 1 and turning it into a mobile defended pentagon for high command.

All the targets for this craft will be on the ground, both guns should be ventral mounted. This would allow for much easier targeting. The current design, with the rear gun on the dorsal spine, limits the firing arch of the gun. This location would also allow the guns to engage ground targets at all approach angles. Counter measures can just as easily be deployed from the sides and dorsal of the craft as from the ventral.

Where are the 32 and 15 mm guns coming from? Why the odd calibers? With the rear gun stowed internally along with the telescoping pintle, servos to travers and elevation, ammo feed chutes, and recoil buffers, how much room will you have for ammo? At least, it won't have to remain on station long until it depletes its ammunition stores.

Cost to run an AC-130: $10K per hour. Cost of ground conflict: exponentially more. You're not going to build a "small AC130". You need payload capacity... and payload capacity requires lift. Lift requires surface area (size) and power (more size).

While this design was quite impressive, I would change one thing on it. I would set the top mounted gun so it points toward the rear by default instead of pointed toward the front. I would also lock the rotation to ~270 degrees, just so it can't accidentally fire into the cockpit.

With the way government procurement can work, I could totally understand a support aircraft that was originally designed to look like this one would end up the size of a C-130 after every Armed Force and every political district had their say while competing for a contract. That top gun for-instance... Someone would say that it needs to store to the rear for safety, which would happen. Until someone saw someone stow it forward, then a requirement would be filed that would require a $2 million dollar limit switch that would subsequently fail during high altitude ops, then there would be a heated armored enclosure (only $75k per!), then the "special" rounds for the 105 would need to be specially produced to limit recoil on a light airframe.... I like the idea, procurement is a living hell where great ideas get bloated, slimy, sideways, and sometime break or rot on the vine. Sweet video and design though.

This seems like it has too much overlap with the A10 or even a reaper drone. Sadly, if you're aiming to make a "more cost effective version" of something, it needs to outright replace that thing while also being cheaper, and the AC-130 is just a C-130 cargo plane with gun ports in the side and the related supporting equipment replacing the hold. If you truly want to replace it, make a stratotanker into an arial VTOL jet drone carrier. Why? because one can rain death whole the other extracts a team of PJs and their VIP
