Thank you very much for this series. I checked out Old World videos from different KZbinrs, and yours were the best in explaining all those little UI details, like 7:05 where do I see the culture level of my city.

I believe you are incorrect about Hamlets, they can specifically be placed anywhere, which is very useful for border-popping. It's most other urban improvements that can only be built next to two other urban tiles (or directly on an urban tile), like a barracks or garrison. Other urban improvements you can build anywhere are wonders (though they may have other specific requirements), shrines, and monasteries (not sure about temples or cathedrals offhand).

Checked temples and cathedrals, they need to be placed next to 2 urban tiles like most urban improvements. I should note that I've begun to experiment with using clusters of 2+ hamlets/shrines/monasteries to create urban centers away from the city core, which is interesting because it's nice to place things like theaters and amphitheaters next to a pair of hamlets.

That sounds good - but I don't believe I have culture high enough in any of my cities at the moment to have two hamlets. I'm sure there's a wonder that gives them a boost too.

@@UnstableVoltage Well, the hamlet you built in Roma where you commented was actually your second hamlet in the city. It might be a while before your other cities catch up, though I should note this isn't something I'm saying is good for every city, it's more for specific situations where you might have resources/rural improvements you want to place close to your core, or where you want to pop borders in specific spots.

Oh laws is something you could expand a little bit on. That is something I don't remember Civ having.

Why is it that tribes' encampment cannot be settled or erased? When I cleared some, it said "will develop into an encampment in 4 years". Granted it is not in a typical "city site" location. Furthermore, I am playing continent map.

Cool, I didn't know you could recruit tribesmen and turn them against their own villages. Saves you a lot of hp from your own men. I hope you will cover the subject of ROADS somewhere in your series, cuz I still don't know what to make of it. Thanks for this series anyway.

I do cover roads later on. I think in part 10 or 11.

I got way too far back on these videos...I started the tutorial today, and it's a bit drudgey (although your leader never dies, so you can get achievements for him being super old :P). I really need to finish it and get into a real game. Anyway, thanks for the border growth info, because the tutorial's definitely empty about that. I'm not at the end, but I also never saw it come up in your playthrough, although admittedly playing Freecell on one side of the screen and not paying full attention, ha ha. It's a good tutorial in some places, but lacking in a lot of others, and would be a lot harder to follow if I didn't already play Civ and other strategy games. tl;dr - Good playthough, good teachings, thanks.

Looks very much like Civilization V. But with huge horses that are as big as the mountain.

Is it worth buying?

I’d say so. I think that’s it different enough from Civ to give you a different experience, and it’s good enough for you not to wish you were just playing Civ.

all I wanna know is how to build harbors :o I've asked google but putting anything with 'old world' into google is gonna get you a BUNCH of random answers about archeology and theology.

I've just loaded up one of my old saves of a late-game playthrough, where I am able to build them. You need the Cartography tech to unlock them, and the only requirements listed are that they must be built on costal water tiles. Each city can only have 1 harbour per culture level.

It's easy to do. The UI isn't so user friendly.

Is there a another way to adopt a state religion other than the pop up? I had spread Judaism all over my land and then got Christianity too in one city. I got a pop up asking if I wanted to make Christianity the state religion so I chose "not right now" wanting to make Judaism the state religion since it was on 90% of my people and cities. Unfortunately it has never popped up and I have looked all over in the game, I see no way to make it the state religion.

If the carved art looks like it could be Jewish but the timeline suggests it isn't, does that make the art Jew-*ish*? Prince Remus is not marrying. I know he's not the greatest catch given his wanton and undisciplined manner, but if your direct line dies out, I think the throne would go to his descendants. Does the game have any way to influence that?
@UnstableVoltage
@UnstableVoltage 2 жыл бұрын
You can always alter inheritance laws (for a civics cost) to change who the title goes to. But, it's always better if you can have your own children as there are events to influence their development.

@@UnstableVoltage I meant more like... if the game won't give you a "trying to conceive" button, will it give you the ability to convince your brother to have spare heirs for you?
@UnstableVoltage

There doesn't appear to be any way to directly influence the chances of any character (including your own) from having a child. I really don't know if it's random, something that's guaranteed after a certain period of time, or if there are factors that effect it.
