Excellent demonstration of sign carving. I've subscribed, but not sure I want to get into it. It is a lot of work which requires a lot of patience and many hours of work. I've thought about it though and that is why I'm here. Who knows, maybe at some point I will give it a try. I'll keep watching.

I love watching you. I did many signs when I was younger. 15 years old . I'm getting back into it. 46 years old now. I'm going to do a few address signs first. I was wondering why you jump around the piece so much lifting router off? Is it to see better? I think it would increase your chances of making a mistake. I ordered your plexiglass baseplate. I was going to make my own but I thought why not help out a person that inspired me to get back to making signs...THANK YOU....

I love the reveals too! Beautiful!!! I just can't make myself leave that much room between my bit and the outside edges of the layout lines like you do. I understand the reason you do.....but dang it, I tend to cut right to the edge of the layout. I gotta work on that to be good like you one day! LOL By the way, that style of cross sure looks familiar to me.......Hmmm! :-)

When you torn the tape off the cross it looked like white clear paper. what else did you use to hold the cross in place.

Hi Jesse, this is Eric. Dad doesn't get on here very much. We several different routers that we use. For small detail I like the Dewalt DWP611, modified the way it is in this video. For bigger routers I like the Porter Cable 690LR or the Dewalt 618. I used it on this video as well. For bits we use we have them all on our website makeawoodsign.com under "Sign Carving Supplies". As far as sharpening them we have several videos on how to do that. Check out our video #164, dad did a get job on that one. I found that my buddy Bill uses black Ink over the letters..maybe so it does not bleed into the cedar he uses?

That's correct, the ink doesn't bleed like normal spray paint does....

This is a woodworking router. Dewalt brand model DWP611. You should be able to search online and find one or maybe at a local store that sells tools. Hi Martin, my father Dave designed it. It is 1/4" shank. 15 degree angle down to a 45 degree angle at the bottom. Get for detail and cutting outset letters. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
