Back in the day, I got a 1965 Riviera model car for Xmas, that I enjoyed putting together, with my big brother's help. He later in life became somewhat a collector of classic cars from the 50s- early 70s. IIRC, we even had lacquer paint cans for spraying the model cars?

When I was a senior at Artesia High School in 1964-65, my gym coach Chief Ron Halstead owned a brand new 1965 Buick Riviera GS in forest green metallic. Love those Buick chrome rims!

My Mom had a ‘63 Rivera when I was in my early teens. I loved it, especially the interior. I would sit in it and get spit on the inside of the windshield making engine noises with my mouth (jk). My folks sold it before I got my license, that probably saved my life because I drove like an idiot for the first year or so. I would have beat that car like it owed me money. Luckily, I bought a ‘67 Chevelle with a 6cyl as my first car. Nobody died. The ‘63-‘65 Rivera has a special place in my heart, as a kid I knew every curve of those cars and drew pictures of them on my school notebooks and stuff back then. I would often soften up the roofline to make it look a little more like a ‘68 GM A body and widen the rear quarter panels slightly to make slightly oversized tires look right. It’s the design of the front of these cars that captured my imagination. Simply beautiful piece of automotive history. As a young kid I watched Speed Racer on TV (a terribly animated Saturday morning cartoon) and always though the Riv had “borrowed” a little design from Mach5 Speed drove in the show, not realizing the Riv came first lol. Anyway, thanks for a great video of an awesome car, Thumbs up!

I don't know how I missed this video especially since I'm a huge 65 Buick Riviera fan. I'm speechless on this video! In my opinion, this might be the nicest and most restored car period on this channel. I could hear Lou laughing slightly on video as the owner wanted to tell him EVERYTHING about ever little detail. That's how much this guy loves his car. The 1 of 1 Cadillac color is amazing. This car is the holy grail of 65 Rivieras and Lou got the exclusive video on it. Awesome find!

i was 12 when the '63 Riviera debuted and as a kid who loved cars was blown away by it. I wanted my parents to buy one SO BAD. we were a Ford family, and even though we did have the '67 4 door TBird and '68 T-Bird coupe (mercifully withOUT a landau roof)...I never stopped lusting for this car to this day, arguably one of the most beautiful American cars ever designed.

That's an amazing restoration when you consider what he started with! When I worked at GM and they brought back the last version of the Riviera, they brought the original, hand built prototype Riviera from the GM collection out to the Lake Orion plant and put it on display for a few days. It was silver with a black top. The front inner wheel wells were red. It was a real museum piece.

WoW!! I got chills watching this video. I love the old Buicks and especially the Riviera line but the Gran Sport variants are the cats meow. Having just now learned that the very first Riviera by Buick was also a Gran Sport and this is the car puts this car in a special place in Buick’s history timeline. This restoration is over the top and that he started it for you to put in the video was and is worth many thanks because I for one, wanted to hear that motor run. This has got to be my favorite video of all my favorite videos and I like them all. From one jarhead to the other whom is the owner and rescuer of this fine future top spot winner of every show it goes to Buick, a job beyond well done and Semper Fi Marine.

Absolutely stunning 65 Riviera which was one of my favorite Buicks As for a person who has had Buick’s engrained in him for over 50 years I see 2 incorrect things with this restoration. They are both on the wheels. In 1965 the center of the wheels should be painted black, this sort of Charcoal gray didn’t come out until mid to late 70’s and then the center cap is incorrect for this car. These center caps started around 1970 and prior to that the center cap was like a cup. It still had the Buick tri-shield in the center but the side were like a finned or ribbed side with just the outside tip being chrome and black in between each fin.

Fantastic car! Designed by Bill Mitchell. Love those classic Buick Rivieras - 1963 to 1973. When Bill Mitchell was no longer involved with the Riviera, GM ruined it with the 1974 model that used his 1973 front end with a LeSabre rear end and it, and subsequent models, were mostly disasters. There were a few exceptions, like the 1984-86 models and the 1996-2000 models.

Beautiful car. Riviera is my favorite sport luxury car. It has always been a beautiful cat. Even in the 80's when every other car looked like a cookie cutter Riviera remained distinctive. A special thank you for this one. No other automobile is as beautiful as the Riviera. The only negative that I can say is that zero miles on the car? Cars are meant to be driven. This beautiful Riviera should rack up the miles. Not remain a museum showpiece. Again...IMHO

A bit off-topic, and some will hate the fact a Riviera was cut up... but. When I was in High School back in the early seventies, I bought a "Rod and Custom" magazine. They showed how to graft the '65 Riviera retracting headlights into '55 -'56 Ford front end. The point on the top of the front fender matched perfect with the headlight bucket. Those, with a 'Vette tooth grill and rolled pan, and man did it look SHARP. Probably one of the best looking customs I ever saw. Of course, back then, a '65 Riviera was just an "old car"... nothing special.

The same tires were on the 1968 1/2 1969 CONTINENTAL MARK III but they were CONTINENTAL brand tires . LOVE them .I have DUAL band diamond back tires on 2 of my MARK IV .I need to order them for my 1979 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL COLLECTORS SERIES I have allway's Loved the BUICK RIVeria's

I had a '65 Riviera that I drove for several years. It may be my favorite car even above my 1972 Corvette and burnt orange, 1977 Buick Century with Tee Tops. Oldsmobile sold so many 1977 Cutlass Cars and Buick Centuries that they had to borrow engines from other divisions of GM to build the cars. In the 1977 model year, you got the engine that you got in the mid sized GM cars with the 350 engine, you might get a Chevy engine in your Oldsmobile or Buick.

My jaw literally dropped at him testifying to it's 1 of 1 rarity. Wow. Right down to the tri-stipe tires! I've owned countless '60s cars, still do, but my '65 Riv was like no other car. Like a factory custom. Can't even remember this color on Cadillacs. I wonder if it was rare even on Caddys. You bring such a great number of special US cars like no other channel Lou. Thanks for that! Would love to see some of the European cars you come across! Edit; Now that I think of it, certain spicy colors were Eldorado only. Gotta save this vid and research that.

The owner makes a point that the tires' whitewalls were specially done. That is what Diamondback Classics is known for: For any car, any whitewall configuration needed. Quite a few cars of the 1960's had double- or triple-stripe tires.

I OWNED A '72 PETE CABOVER WITH A 8V-71T. THE ENGINE WAS FACTORY PAINTED THE SAME COLOR AS THIS CARS ENGINE. AS ANYONE KNOWS IT IS A "DETROIT DIESEL". THIS RIVIERA REPRESENTS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION ON THE PART OF THE MEN WHO BUILT THIS CAR. OUT OF ALL THE RIVIERA YEARS, THE '65 HAS TO BE THE MOST PERFECT BODY STYLE. MY FIRST CAR (SEE MY VIDEO OF THE KADAK PHOTO) AT AGE 16 WAS THE '66 RIVIERA (PURCHASED IN 1973 FOR $800). THE CAR IN THIS VIDEO JUST MAY BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RIVIERA IN THE WORLD. IF JAY LENO COMES UP WITH $10M, TAKE IT.
