Richard - thanks again for yet another wonderful video. This one's close to my heart as my first ever job at the age of 16 was as a weekend grease monkey cum yard sweeper at RJ Henderson Transport Contractors at Lemington near Newcastle. I remember lying on a thin cardboard sheet on icy puddles heaving away on a giant grease gun attending the 28 greasing points on their Atkinson tractor units. I packed it in when I paid off my top Mod suit that I had made at Newcastle's famous Jackson The Tailors. The old Bedford brought back memories as well. During the brutal winter of 1963 a fleet of SWB tippers worked 24/7 dumping snow into the River Tyne that was loaded by fleets of diggers to keep our roads clear. It kept small boys very happy and as soon as got home I was playing with my friends putting handfuls of snow into our Matchbox Bedford tippers!

What a greeting, indeed! The Austin! Much love from Canada! I love seeing vehicles that I haven't seen (unless I owned the Dinky toy back in the 50s)

What a fantastic way for a company to celebrate and share it's history. A great place too, to go for some light refreshment by the look of it. Thanks for sharing.☺

Thanks for the video, my grandfather had a very similar square front Bedford 5 tonner, used for his greengrocery business up to the mid 50’s.

I love to see the old sign writing, too. Always artfully executed by the sign writer. I've seen some very old films of haulage companies or just traders with their lorries from many decades ago. A quick Google, and I am often surprised to find that some are still in business.

Thanks for the visit, Richard. I had an Austin (morry minor) pickup just like that in Teal blue the same colour. Mine was a K reg so must have been a very late one.

Part of the reason I watch these lorry videos is to try and jog my memory which lorry my late Father used to drive in the early 1950's when I was very young. He worked for a company in South Shields which made large copper hot water tanks and he transported them all over the country. The company was called Elsy and Gibbons, I am not sure if they still function although they do have a website but the accounts haven't been filed for a very long time. This was long before the days of motorways etc.. I am now convinced it was a Bedford Type S. My family run a haulage company and I bet these trucks were more reliable than the ones we used today. Our single largest cost is truck maintenance, we run Volvo, Renault and MAN and they constantly have issues despite constant servicing etc. and one broke down yesterday in the south which is having to be recovered and towed back to our yard in Sunderland which ain't cheap. Good brekkie viewing,

Spent my life as a truck driver....my first driving job aged 17 in the 70s was driving a Minor Pick up same color as the one in this video. Worked at the Bee Motor Cycle Shop In Liverpool. delivering motor cycles and scooters with it....wasn't very suitable really.....had to have the rear wheel on the lowered tailgate. Happy days. Must have past within 300mts of this interesting looking place only yesterday on my Triumph Bonnie on my way home from a visit to Sleap Airfield....via Web and Tilstock. Its now on my to do list. Those lorries look fantastic. Lots of time and money went into those for sure. My favorite was probably the VW pickup. Very rare and that one looks perfect. The only thing I can say about performance is that I drove a van style VW of that vintage packed with furniture and it struggled to pull up the hills of Cincinnati. That large cover on the pickup makes it look more formidable than I think it really is!

Good morning Rick. It looks like a really interesting place to stop off and spend a while. The military version of the S series was the RL that provided the base for the Green Goddesss, as you pointed out. In 1972, I learned to drive in the standard truck version down at Bovingdon, at the RA Driver and Maintenance camp next to the tank museum.

Good to see BFE 911 surviving, especially with that tag! I'm guessing she's OWL, 'O' type, 'W' - 'war, 'L' - long wheel base, they were pretty common when I was a wee lad, one local company put Perkins P6s in theirs. I always thought that the 'WD' front end was for ease of production and maintenance access but I remember reading that it also allowed the fitting of larger air filters fo desert work. There's a good article on the restoration of a civvy spec. OWL in this months 'Old Glory' magazine.

That looks like an interesting place to visit. As you say when a company is bought out or lorries come to the end of their service they are pensioned off and never seen again so it is good that the family have preserved at least some. The VW single cab in blue does have what is called a 'treasure chest' located under the main load area, you may have missed it as it is not obvious at first sight. It is the long door on the passenger side. Thanks for the video Rick very nice. 👍👍

The Bedford truck I can remember seeing one of these or other surplus truck on Blackpool beach ferrying passengers to the waters edge on to a pleasure boat in the 1960's. The last I saw one of these it was just a rusty wreck and I wonder how safe it was to drive. On You tube there is a clip of a Bren gun carrier also being used on Blackpool beach to ferry passengers.
