Oh yeah it is happening. I am Chinese American and I recently went to China for a archery competition and I stopped by a rural bowmaker's shop from whom I had ordered a lot of stuff from. He builds really high quality metal ILF bow risers and his shop is a rough shack in the middle of nowhere in Lanzhou and his house is nearby. I literally thought I was in rural Alabama. There was even a truck mounted on blocks in the yard. Only thing missing is a Confederate flag LOL. While we were talking about shooting and hunting his French wife came out with refreshments for both of us. It was surreal and awesome to see.

The law of supply and demand. The supply is low (chinese woman) and the demand is high (Chinese men wanting a woman), but when the price of the woman is too high (dowery, house, car), and another seller enters the market (Russia, Thailand, veitnam) its just better to go buy from the new seller.

The supply is very high. The Chinese women keep the prices extremely high, above the market's equilibrium price. So it's a market's failure. Then you have the importation of foreign women which operates as a correction to that failure. That's the beauty of the open boarders trade.

I think the past 2-3 years war inflicted situation plays a big role in Russian ,Belarusian and Ukranian women dating /marrying Chinese men. The reason on behalf of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand may be they share similar cultural preference and ethnically closer to China . If foreign women marrying Chinese men become a trend, in the long run China will go through a huge demographic change.

Some Chinese women are very demanding with Chinese men but not at all with Western men, as if marrying a Chinese man is a big sacrifice needing guarantees. To give a little context on 20000 yuan/month, that's only a little lower than the ANNUAL salary in China. Such an income would be, even in a major metropolitan area like Shanghai, easily in the top 10% of salary earners. So basically the standard seems to be in top 10% in income, be in the top 1/3 or so in height. Add a few more filters (good looks etc.) and the average standard of a Chinese women is basically top 1% of Chinese men. Even if everyone of those 1% men decide to marry/date 10 women, we're still looking at 90% of women having to "settle" for less. It's just unrealistic expectations pricing themselves out of the market.
