Ancient Georgia then known as Colchis to the Greeks is where Jason went to find the Golden Fleece which was protected by a huge dragon and he fell in love with the sorceress/princess Medea. The "golden fleece" thing is quite interesting as even nowadays in Georgia prospectors use a sheep skin to pan for alluvial gold in the rivers and the fleece becomes "golden" because of the small particles of gold trapped in it.

In the end, Charlemagne's Succession plans didn't matter when all but one of his legitimate sons had died... and that was an attempt to follow Frankish custom, as when one ruler died, the realm would be divided by all surviving sons, rather than just the Eldest inheriting it all... which I think was one of the dumbest ways Succession could work, if Norway or Russia weren't example enough...

He’s also one of the real life historical figures mentioned in “War and Peace” and in his case he was also included as a secondary character. He died of wounds he sustained during the Battle of Borodino, which is covered substantially in the novel. (The battle was a Pyrrhic victory for the French, as the battle had weakened both sides so much that the Russians allowed the French to take Moscow. The Russians then set much of the city aflame to keep Napoleon’s army from plundering the city for supplies. With a lack of food and other supplies for the French deep in enemy territory, Napoleon left Moscow only a month after capturing it and it began a long French retreat that was exasperated by the harsh winter weather in the region, for which the French army was ill-prepared.)

Probably the best known modern-day member of the Georgian royal family was Prince Guéorgui Vassilievitch Matchabelli (1885-1935). A native of Tiflis, in 1921, he and his Italian-born wife settled in the United States. In 1926, they established the Prince Matchabelli Perfume Company. The prince, an amateur chemist, blended the company's perfumes. Among its best known brands was Wind Song (later heavily advertised on television). Other favorites were Ave Maria and Princess Norina. All the perfumes came in crown-shaped bottles.

For anyone wondering, the Gruzinsky branch of the family used to have a male heir in the personage of Nugzar’s 4th cousin, Yevgeny Petrovich Bragation-Gruzinsky. But he passed away in 2018 without any children so this branch of the dynasty is out of male dynasts except for Nugzar himself. Also apparently the marriage of his eldest daughter Ana to the heir of the Mukhrani branch was a huge deal because it courted the involvement of Georgian monarchists, the government and the Georgian Orthodox Church, namely those in support of the marriage because it would unify the 2 branches and those in opposition because any children they have would have a nigh-indisputable claim to the throne. It seems that will be a reality though as Ana and her now ex-husband David have their son Giorgi.

The House Bagration is now also part of the Imperial House of Russia since Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna's mother, a Bagration princess, married Grand Ducke Vladimir of Russia. This makes the current House Romanov the most senior of all royal houses in Europe and Middle East dynasties via the maternal line.

I guess it should be stated the definition of Dynasty at the beginning of the video. If we mean an unbroken line of succession in which each new element is linked to the previous by being their relative, 814 is not old enough to make it "the oldest Christian Dynasty". Robertians->Capetingians->Bourbons have an unbroken and documented line of father-son links which started before 800.
@UsefulCharts
@UsefulCharts 12 күн бұрын
A royal dynasty starts with the first person in a noble house to become a king and continues so long as there is at least one male-only line descendant that is still living. Even if we go with the first Robertian instead of the first Capetian, we'd have to start with Odo, who became King of France in 888.

I kid you not, this is *the* video I was expecting the most to see on this channel. The House of Bagrationi has as much potential as any other European royal dynasty. I think it could have been covered in more detail. Also the union of the two main branches despite their (ongoing) rivalry, and the fact that the Georgian monarchy is one of the closest to being restored. If prince Giorgi is raised right and his parents are wise enough in dealing with the succession issue, we may see a towering figure of Georgian history later this century.

Funnily enough, I was exploring the visigothic dynasties and kings in CK3 and the very first king (of the Iberian Visigoths, Alaric I)'s father was Georgian. He died in Constantinople, and Alaric I, his son, migrated to Iberia. That fact took me on a wild spiral on Wikipedia.

That area in the World throughout History was a Fulcrum between all corners of the World. Which if you’ve ever played a 4X Game, does not fair well for it. All kinds of fascinating things get mixed together there. But it’s always someone’s next Conquest. If you think about it, virtually every large Nation or Empire, either popped up like wild fire then collapsed, or slow burned in some sort of Geographical and Economic Stronghold. You hold the Choke Point.

And one more fact: Tao or Tayk in armenian before the Arab invasion were part of the Kindom of Armenia for more than 800 years. Byzantines didn't really put Ashot I as the king, for around 150 years Georgia had dynastic wars going on and the Bagrationi dynasty came out victorious, the only involvement from the Byzantines was some support of different candidates and the title of "Curopalates" that they gave out, during this time there was no King of Georgia, but there were Georgian Kings, that's how we call the period between 500s to 700s To explain as shortly as possible, between 300 BC and 600s Georgia was divided into 2 kingdoms, the Kingdom of Colchis (Later Lazica) in the West and the Kingdom of Iberia in the East and South, there were a few Georgian dynasties that ruled these regions and they had very close relations, every time any outsider was attacking both Colchis and Iberia would unite, after around late 400s to early 500s Chosroid dynasty of Iberia got split and so did the Kingdom of Iberia's territory as Iberia itself in East Georgia, and Tao-Klarjeti region in the South. After that, Georgia was always divided into these 3 parts with significant nobilities ruling these regions, even during the Kingdom of Georgia. At the end of the 500s the ruler of Tao-Klarjeti and younger brother to the ruler of Iberia Guaram I was the man who is considered in Georgia as the founding father of the Bagrationi dynasty, he started the "game of thrones" and the battle between royal dynasties and just noble dynasties, both Anchabadze and Bagrationi dynasties were born from these dynastic wars. The Chosroid dynasty died in the process of these dynastic wars, but it transformed into the Bagrationi dynasty, and after that, the video explains everything correctly. I just explain this because of one particular reason, some propaganda machine from one of today's empires that wants to tear Georgia apart tries to make it seem that Anchabadze weren't Georgians, they were influenced by the Byzantines way more than the Iberians, but they were Georgians, every proof that there exists including manuscripts, including churches and writings on them all are in Georgian, and from every century, from the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, especially from the 10th to the 12th centuries as during the "Golden Age" churches were built everywhere. This is important to mention for certain reasons. Also, Hearclius didn't leave any battles, Russia abandoned their own plans, it was the Russians that broke the Treaty of Georgievsk and multiple times, I don't know where did you get that info from, I have read Catherine's letter to her general in Georgia from Russian archives, how they decide to break the agreement, where did you get info that Heraclius broke it? That's a huge false information.

Actually, the state/empire of Trebizond was formed before the sack of 1204 by two Byzantine princes from the Komnenos dynasty who sought to antagonize the ruling Angelos dynasty with Tamar's help.
