I passed the Saugus Cafe many times when my daughter lived in Newhall, and it was always closed. Now I am sad for that because I never knew it was so old, and I love Chicken Fried Steak and Biscuits and Gravy. Here are some suggestions for other Great old historic restaurants in LA, all of which I have been to many times: Musso & Franks on Hollywood Blvd (the oldest restaurant in LA proper), Phillipe's French Dip (located in what later became Chinatown, this is a classic downtown LA lunch place that has not changed in 90 years), The Hat (a classic LA fast food sandwich place specializing in sub style "Goyem" pastrami), The Derby on Huntington Drive near the Santa Anita Race Track (this is the original place where the high rollers and the big owners went for fine food after the races - it has a little museum hall for Sea Biscuit), Canter's Deli on Fairfax (a very old and famous family owned Deli unfortunately remodeled in the 1980s), the Farmers Market also on Fairfax (numerous historic eateries are here including the original DuPar's, famous for its steak and kidney pies), The Pantry downtown (open 24 hours since the 1920s and it still looks the same - it has great breakfasts and good steaks, all cooked on a visible grill - and there is a counter too), Damon's Tiki Lounge Steak House in Glendale (an odd mix of Tiki and steak, with PuPu Platters and Great Aged Rib Eyes), The Apple Pan (a tiny burger joint on Pico in West LA - it has many fans for half a century), Paradise Cove in Malibu (a touristy but fun bar and restaurant with its own private beach; very early 1970s), The Dresden Room (higher end old time American fare) and Palermo's (decent pizza and excellent meat lasagna) both on Vermont, La Fonda near MacArthur Park (it is a super club offering dinner and a Mariachi and dance show), Shogun Teppan Yaki House in Hasting's Ranch (one of the first Teppan Yaki places in the US), The Red Lion in Silver Lake (a very old German beer-house and restaurant), Dan Tana's Italian Steakhouse (opened in the early 1960s, this was "THE" place to go for decades), The Oyster House on Moorpark in Studio City (a so so seafood place but it is historic, and very cramped), Carousel on Brand in Glendale (a Lebanese Supper club with live music and a dance floor to swing your date around on - there are also belly dancers}, Phoenix Inn (one of the oldest restaurants in Chinatown, very old school, like Crab Rangoon old school), Matsuhisu on LaCienega (one of the oldest and the best Japanese sushi places in LA), Moon of Tunis on Sunset (LA's oldest surviving Moroccan restaurant with Belly Dancers - the decor feels like a deset tent, and an evening here is magical), Billingsley's on Pico in West LA (this old fashioned bar and steakhouse has been family owned for many generations, and it is pretty good, though it bypasses the expensive dry aged cuts, so it also doesn't break the bank), Taylor's American Steak House on 8th St. (this is a classic old place with leather booths, white linen, wedge salads, and aged steaks), Chez Jay's (a dark and very old seafood joint stright out of the 60s located on Ocean Blvd in Santa Monica), Ye Olde King's Head British Pub in Santa Monica (a very old and authentic pub offering ales, darts, and a full British menu including a traditional English Breakfast with all the puddings), and of course, Tam O'Shanter's on Los Feliz (Walt Disney's favorite restaurant, specializing in Prime Rib). These are some of my favorite historic restaurants in Los Angeles. I Hope you like them.

I grew up at the Saugus Cafe...my grandfather knew the owners who would need a "handyman" and he was the guy to call. I have great memories of that place and miss the biscuits and gravy. The cafe still looks pretty much like it did in the old days. I remember as a kid thinking we were having an earthquake (you know how CA is about those) when it was just the train going by across the street on the tracks because it would shake the building every time. I see they have coffee cups...do they sell merch cause I'd love to have one for the memories? You should try The Halfway House in Santa Clarita (Canyon Country area) that was built in 1934. That place is iconic for being used in tv/commercials/movies. I love the peanut butter pie.

Oh wow I love old restaurants! 134 year old restaurant? If they’re still open, they’re obviously winners and doing everything right. The food looks heavenly good so that would be a great factor as to why they’re still open today, I’ve never tried biscuits and gravy before but I want that lol. Great information about the restaurant that ma for sharing this with us.

Thanks for this video. I drive by this place so many times when I go to The Master's University area in Newhall. I definitely gotta check it out sometime soon. I love diner spots. It's always good comfort food. There's also another good well known breakfast spot near there called Egg Plantation if you ever want to try that place out. I always go for my free birthday entree on my birthday. Lol. And if you like coffee shops, I always get coffee at Honu Coffee next door after my meals there. And near where I live there's another diner I like called Henri's Restaurant in Canoga Park.

The Answer is ....Stay Calm and Flat also Patient don't feel Bother with other successful Business type that similar with your Product ..competition is Competition that is life what you gonna do ?? ..........slow Progress but Moving up ...not the best but keep Exist ...every aspect, Segment , Ambition of Businesses have different Orientation and layers of Complexity ...but if your Business has been Running for more than 10 Years either small or Big....Maintain it !! ..keep walking like a Turtle slow but sure ...but if you have an aggressive Ambition to expand and Grow bigger and Faster be prepared for the Storm and Thunder !!
