Always Board Never Boring has recently acquired a few new things for his growing collection of HeroQuest and Advanced Heroquest. In this video he takes a look at three class Oldhammer miniatures - two from the 80s, one from the 90s. He has also just received his copy of Mage of the Mirror, so he quickly rips the lid off that and talks about his plans for new content for the channel over the next few weeks.
Special thanks to John Stanwix for sending in the vintage goblin miniature! Super kind and generous.

Hi, it's Samuraitrev from lostminis, I'm the guy who sent you the plastic space marine parts a while back :D. Awesome find with Hugbug. That's all now sorted. Keep up with the great channel and good luck with the Advanced HeroQuest project.

Lovely goblin gift, very characterful. Nice Nurgle addition to your collection, those Realm of Chaos miniatures by Jes Goodwin never get old and still some of the best miniatures ever made by GW - I hope to have a complete set of 12 Slannesh Champions one day and at least one from the othe dark gods. I like your River Troll, mine are plastic, which I like too.

All excellent figures, but that Nurgle Champion is SPECIAL. Love it. I think it might have a skull mask rather than advanced face rot, but either way its an awesome sculpt.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
It doesn't really look like a skull mask to me; although I reckon you could make it work either way with the right paint job. The few I've seen haven't been painted as skull maskes and I haven't tracked down an official Eavy Metal version yet. I'll have to see if I can find one to see what they did with it.

Never seen that gobo before, nice. The best gobo of that era for me is headcleaver, hes got a little mohawk. Ive actually got him around somewhere, bad paint job on him though. Anyway, cant wait for the new expansion playthrough, will you be continuing the saga of Ethel? Cheers mate.

I saw Head Cleaver among the C12 gobbos when I want hunting through the flyers for Hugbug. There are some great little characters in that range. Ethel has retired. There's a new elf hero who needs to venture forth now.

My all time favorite model is the early 90's Kev Adams model that's giving his enemies the finger, I have 4 of them and my dream is to get enough of them to make a whole unit of stabbas out them

The Chaos Champions are excellent minis. I have 6 of those river trolls. They are pretty brutal in old school games. The goblin looks good, though maybe a little skin highlighting to bring him closer to what your other goblins will be.

When I base up Hugbug he will get a little bit of treatment. I want to do the eyes and a few little bits here and there. At the moment he reminds me very much of how I painted my original 4th edition greenskin horde. The trolls from this period - the river and rock trolls - are some of my favourites. I actually like them more than the earlier types. This troll has never actually seen the tabletop, though. When I came back to the hobby I never could really reconnect with Fantasy Battle.
@johnmiddleton4291
@johnmiddleton4291 Жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I agree, early GW trolls are cool but definitely not as characterful as the 90s ones. The river trolls with their slimy hides and vomit attacks are wonderfully vile. I also like the chaos trolls from this period, though they are pretty spendy now.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
Were the vomiting rules introduced especially for the river trolls? Greenskin armies were so much fun. The massed ranks of useless gobbos, vomiting trolls, wildly flapping doom divers, squig riders, fanatics, and the animosity rules that killed my chances of winning every time. Do greenskins in AoS have anything like animosity? I honestly have no idea.
@johnmiddleton4291
@johnmiddleton4291 Жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Animosity was no big deal if you built your units with orc leaders or if you deployed your army in a line with nothing too close and orc/gobbo units alternating. You pretty much needed orc leaders in trolls units to or they sat there being stupid. Rock Lobbers and Spear Chuckers and such didn't have issues. Unruly replaced animosity in 8th but was sort of a mess. It required extra leadership tests. animosity was toned down in 7th, along with making everything more bland. In AoS all those are in separate armies. Orcs are very well organized and hard. They are not the constant in joke of old WFB. Gitz and Gloomspite have some random elements but they are more focused now.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but animosity always used to know exactly when to fail me the most, and would invariably do so. It was always fun to see a well-planned strategy fall to bits. I recall (although it was a very long time ago) trolls weren't feasible at all without someone to boss them around.

Love all the HQ and related content! A couple recent other scores of mine have been the latest Blitz Bowl Ultimate Edition ($25 at Barnes and Noble’s post-holiday sale) and just found Space Marine Adventures for the same price on Amazon the other day! Have you ever played the original Mighty Empires? I have it and used to play it long ago as a stand-alone game, has always been one of my faves. I drew up a 'code' (actually a short list of rules) for procedurally generating whole advanced heroquest dungeons using a single chosen or dice generated number: it always irked me that the dungeon plan and enemies did not exist pregame.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
Sounds interesting, but I do love that sense of exploration as everything gets generated on the fly. Of course, a dedicated GM could just design every dungeon in advance if they really wanted to.

There is a charm about those old models that puts to shame the ones of today ( other than what Kev Adams is still doing) Being both a goblin and troll collector I'm very jealous! You made the right call leaving it with the great paint job he already did on it. I'll definitely be looking for this goblin myself! Don't worry to badly about what you pay for a miniature, I know I got in a bidding war on a Vlad Von carstien model I really wanted awhile back and probably gave to much for him and I don't even want to talk about some of the prices I paid for 90's goblins. Eventually I'd love to get some of those old Trolls as well, and the old metal loonboss on cave squiq they just look so much cooler than the new models!

I love the Trolls and Ogres from that period (and similarly the Ogryns for 40k), they look exactly as Trolls and Ogres should look to me. I’ve been doing a similar exercise for 1st Edition Space Hulk. I managed to bag the original 8x RTB9 Metal Terminator Squad minis (minus the box unfortunately) and I think they look great.

Those metal termies are great - proper solid chunks of metal. I have been gradually filling out the roster for Advanced Space Crusade, but I haven't got any of those metal terminators.
