The choppiness of Burton Bird felt just like an AMOS game so I looked it up, and sure enough, it was made in AMOS and seems to be fairly well regarded as far as those games go. I programmed in AMOS for years but that choppy feeling always put me off and I never finished making any of those games.

Yeah its weird and in many games I think it would have totally ruined the game but like i say it just works....horrible game to watch, great game to play.
@8_Bit Жыл бұрын
@@oldstylegaming Yeah, that's the way to work with limited tools like AMOS, the developers need to figure out what works well with them and go with the flow. I was trying to make a big Autoduel style game with big maps and the stuttering scrolling just put me off there.

@@8_Bit breed 96 and bloodfest on this list are also in Amos but due to the slower nature of the game its less apparent

I had honestly never heard of many of them, I think because they came out when I no longer had Amiga (I sold it in 1993). I would have also included Balance of Power, Black Gold, Black Sect, Bio Challenge, and Blastar, which I don't recall being very popular at the time of their release.

One which I played a LOT of, but seems too obscure to even find, is Bounceroids (I think that was the name). It was a HIRES Interlaced 640x400 game, which IIRC was white on red. The graphics were all in a standard IFF file you could edit in Deluxe Paint, so I customized my own graphics with a skull and bones theme. Unlike normal asteroids, stuff bounced off the borders, thus the name. My favorite strategy was to hang out at a corner, and bounce my shots at an angle to one of the nearby walls to get a good chance of taking out the various asteroids. It had a glass shattering sound effect when you hit an asteroid, which is what inspired me to customize it with a skull and bones theme. There was another asteroids type game which I played a lot of, but it didn't have customizable graphics ... just the default wireframe style graphics. I can't remember the name of this one at all. It was also HIRES laced 640x400, one bitplane deep. The great thing about it was the massive firepower you could get. You could just spam wide swathes of the screen with double bullets. One of the more unusual enemies was an alien UFO that didn't actually shoot at you. Instead it has a sort of reverse tractor beam effect that could push you into an asteroid if you weren't careful. IIRC, it wasn't a very dangerous enemy compared to the more normal ones that shot at you. But I can't remember the title of this one at all! I doubt it started with B, probably.

@@oldstylegaming Good luck, and let me know if you find anything - I can't find anything about it anywhere! There's a good chance that I'm simply not remembering the name of the game correctly, and this has stymied my attempts to search out any info about it. I'm pretty sure it was Public Domain, or freeware, or maybe shareware.

Some very good recommendations and most of them I haven't heard of. I knew of Bargon Attack, but I never played it. Burntime, on the other hand is amazing game and I'm sure that fans of Fallout and Wasteland will like this game as well. I highly recommend it as well. Battle Duel, while I never played it, reminds me a bit on Amiga PD game called Tanx.

So i use my full adf romset, pick games i dont really know or hear of much and check them on lemon for scores and votes. I generally dont use anything with votes more than 20, i then go off and play all the shortlist about 25 per video and whittle them dow to 10, if I'm struggling for 10 good games i use hall of light and any what catch my eye i load up and try.
