The Earth has been annihilated by radioactive wars. A spaceship from Mars discovers the famous scientist Cornelius Hathaway, almost 80 years old, has survived the blasts. What is curious is that his wife and children have also survived, but they have not aged. The children still look like they are in their teens and 20s. And Hathaway's wife is a beautiful woman. What could be happening? All is explained at the end in this excellent Ray Bradbury story. (from "The Critical X Minus One" by Jim Fanisher)

Why not? They knew humans have addictive habits, and they didn’t know smoking did anything more than “cut your wind.” We’re no better today with junk food and vaping and hard lemonade and malt liquor, not to mention hundreds of thousands killed by fentanyl.

@@quicksilvertongue3248 Nothing wrong with it, just saying that 75 years from now we might be judged and found wanting as well. We’re all products of our times, and back then nearly 8 out of 10 adults smoked and didn’t see a problem with it. But with decades of proof behind us of how bad it is for you, we have a way different perspective.
