I could definitely use the universal wrench on this. When I’m at a rehearsal, that will work on the bolts that hold a music stand together, to tighten it up. It could also probably fit some wing nuts, if you shove one end into the narrow end.

I don't understand why every tool designer out there insists on mangling good designs with bottle openers. If you can't open a beer cap with a pry bar across your knuckles then you're too drunk anyway. You'd have a stronger prying section, and the 4mm hex hole would be centered instead of off to one side. Agree on the excessive branding text on tools too, that's just tacky.

My son, 22yr, picked up my pocket prybar just to fidget with it last time he was over, 5 days ago, and now it can’t be found anywhere. It is absolutely driving me nuts. I have been looking at new ones since and cannot settle on one. I’m so glad to find a review on the Olight from someone I have grown to trust. Thank you brother!

Owner of an Olight pry here: overall, I've found it to be just as handy and useful as ANY quality edc pry tool ... HOWEVER, there is an issue to be aware of. If you plan to carry one of these in your pocket, the stainless steel pivot that holds the bits in place, is always spinning on its own in my pocket, causing the bits to fall out. This has prompted me to stop using it and start looking for a replacement, as I feel it's only a matter of time before the bits end up lost. Originally I attempted to resolve the problem by using a small tactical rubber band, but the rubber band grips your pocket edge as you try to put it in, causing it to slide up defeating it's intended purpose. Truly a shame, as I own several other Olight products, and really really like them all (they get used and abused and continue to function beautifully)

Just got mine and I think it's the perfect size for getting better leverage when prying! I don't see much use in a thumb size pry bar. Alternatively, lose the wrench and holes add 2 more double ended bits and keep the length. If you made it as described above and changed the retention piece to be a 3 way, made it slightly wider they could slot a 5th bit in there or, my preference would be a small bit extender.

the two hex slots you say are useless, are probably to put the screwdriver bits into, for more torque than the end bit, because it'll give you more leverage having the tool sideways

Seems neat and the driver bit looks useful, but for my tool pouch the little 5" mini pry wins. It looks like a tiny crow bar which means it has better angles than these pocket prys, and the coating is good for marring until you wear the coating off, at which point a couple of thin plastic prys (or stout bass guitar picks) tucked in the back of the tool pouch do great

To me, it's not about using it all the time but to have it when I need it. That being said I wouldn't carry one of these large pry tools unless it had a knife on it. I have a Gerber Shard that's been on my keys for years now and came in handy many times. I use it for rough tasks to protect my knives. I understand the desire to shorten the tool but, you ARE compromising on other aspects of it by doing so: you're reducing the overall leverage of the tool and cutting into both rulers substantially. That trade off might be worth it for yourself, but for those that don't mind the length it's basically just downgrading the tool. The two smaller holes up top aren't useless either, they're easily used as a wrench with the included bits. The lack of built in retention isn't even an issue, as you can push against the side of the bit that protrudes, locking it in place more than well enough to loosen a tight fastener or break some loctite. They also add a small degree of weight reduction to the tool, right now it balances at the end of the clip (pretty perfect) and filling them in would spoil a nice tough IMO. Overall it's fantastic value though, definitely worth the cash. Don't rule out Amazon: Olight runs sale pricing every now and then on there, I got my Baton 3 premium edition at sale price there, and was able to leverage Amazon's gift card top up bonus to get it even cheaper.

I like the smiley face! You already said that it's an outstanding value, so why be "bothered" over a couple of holes (for eyes) and a smile below it? I have a Griffin pocket tool, and tbh, I usually forget I have it at all. First time I used it, the metal (brass) deformed on the "pry" side. The Griffin Ti "Original" versions run $45 plus shipping, and you get a lot less utility - so much so, that all I really use it for is to hang my keys from my pocket, eliminating the 5/16" Hex hole (gotta affix the key loop somehow!). You're right, this is a great value, and I will be ordering one. . :)

It's made by a chinese company called Tacray. I think my biggest issue with the Opry is 1) it's size, and 2) the little rotating closure holding the bits in place has too much potential to have them fall out if it gets rotated in the pocket, which Ive seen is starting to happen to every day users of this thing. Having riveted edges with rubber gaskets in addition to it would be a nice 2nd level of security to keeping those bits in place

@@jamesellsworth9673 That's true about prying, I'm always amazed to hear/read about people breaking knives using them a pry bars. If you need to do that then it's a good idea to buy a pry bar but not for £50! As to the Bond it doesn't have scissors and a saw which some may see as essential but Victorinox do the best scissors and their saws are as good as Leatherman, or better in the case of the one on my Rebar. hi thanks for the review. I just get mine last week for 50€ here in France. Very pricey compare to other brand. Here we have a very limited acces to edc stuff and when we have is always at high price compare to USA.

Pricey compared to which one? I've never seen one that does these things for this price.

I almost never need a mini pry bar in a setting that I don't already have something that will suffice just as well, if not better than this, even if it's just a large screwdriver. So I can't see spending the money for something like this, or bothering to actually carry something like this on my person, as cool and well made as it is. It would be marginally more practical if they beveled the inside of the bottle opener area into a 3/4 to 1 inch cutting edge to open boxes and cut things. Basically a knife that didn't look like a knife for non permissive settings. Failing that, I'd but a small notch in the middle of the blade and then bend it, so it had more leverage and could pull small nails, like a real crowbar. Or leave it straight and beef off the opposite end so you could huit it with something to split wood or drive it into a narrow place in order to then pry something. Maybe even reduce the size of non pry end a bit and bevel the edges so that it would fit inside a common size of pipe that could be used as a cheater bar. Someone else said to loose the universal wrench to gain strength and add space for two more driver bits. +1 on that. You can get a small screwdriver with 4 or 5 doubled ended bits that store in the handle for less money, about the same weight and with more utility. A medium sized flat head screwdriver from Harbor Freight for $1, with its longer length and more leverage, will pry just about anything this thing will. As it is, this thing just seems like a fancy bottle opener and can opener for women who don't want to break a finger nail.

I havent used a can opener in 25 years and as for a pry bar, Maybe twice in 15 years. I dont see any value in it unless you are a bartender or maybe a painter, and that is assuming its thin enough to open a gallon of paint.

You say that it would lose no utility by removing an inch but that's not quite true. You lose an inch of leverage on your pry bar and a pry bar, which is essentially just a lever starts losing utility fast when you begin taking away it's only mechanical advantage.
@maxlvledc
@maxlvledc 2 жыл бұрын
Ah, correct. In my head I was thinking about included functions cut into it, but leverage is quite important

who on Earth needs a bottle opener? I live here for 36 years, I remember days when beer was mostly in bottles and even at that time you could open it with any flat rigid object. Why they spend precious tool space on useless crap? The tool itself is a rigid flat object made of metal - you can open a bottle with any of its edges.

@@maxlvledc still have to admit that was a huge oversight of putting that much voltage and power in such a small light wouldn't lead to severe safety concerns seems like olights more concerned about chasing lumens/candelas instead of looking at what might happen when you cram that much power into such a small housing is it impressive yes should it raise the question of "is this safe" very much so.
