I think the idea is not to have to up end it all the time just move it off the item you are ironing it just raises as soon as you release your hand. I have one and would well recommend it.

You do not need to turn the iron up, just release the handle and the iron will lift up and stay in place. The lift feature is there so you don’t have to set the iron on its bottom. This iron relives that wrist motion . Please use the iron properly .

She did both. It is probably just habit from standard irons.
