I agree with this idea. People tend to overcomplicate everything they do, just to feel like they do it better, smarter. Productivity is about doing less, not more. It's about being clear and focused on your ideas and using tools to your advantage. But yes productivity became a chaotic and not actually understandable. It's not more about how can I actually do it better but which apps, systems and fancy templates can I use. Then you just get lost in it. Funny thing.

I recently switched back to Apple notes after trying Notion, Obsidian, etc. and the simplicity is so refreshing. Smart folders have so much potential but you can’t put them inside other folders, which really limits the ability to organize them. (Like you wouldn’t have been able to hide everything in your Personal folder for this demo if you had any smart folders).

I started the shift to all native Apple apps and the minimalistic workflow and I am loving it. I am seeing the benefits of just getting things in and out and working through content. All these other apps and tools have too many features for customization, clutter, distractions etc. And as a Software Engineer, sure, I do appreciate all that ingenuity in the apps, and I have played with all of them and *did* enjoy them, but there is something about Apple's core apps with the iCloud integration. It is all insanely fast, clean, sleek and no bs - straight to the point - work.

Totally agree - the less friction to create a note, the higher the chance you will capture something. Simplicity reduces the barrier to action and whilst I also use Notion for more complex things, Apple Notes can't be beaten for its speed, simplicity and ability to get the job done. Great video production!

I’ve recently come full circle back to Notes as well after years of applications such as Notability, GoodNotes, etc. My initial issue was my handwriting with the Apple Pencil in the Notes app, whereas Notability gives you the ability to zoom into the page and be more precise with writing. Over time I found my handwriting improved without the need to zoom in and I began to type more of the notes I jot down. Cheers!

The main issue of Apple Notes - is removing the "undo" button. And the new ways with three fingers or "shake" phone are not user-friendly. One time when I spent about an hour writing a text and by mistake removed it all, I just lost it because I switched to Safari to google how to make undo and lost all in-memory buffers because of that. So, even google notes is better because it has a logical and simple interface for everyday use like "undo" button. :c

I have recently discovered the power of Apple Notes. I am a builder and now use notes to create folder for each job I am running. It allows me to seperate and store plans, quotes, invoices etc. One feature that needs to be added is to be able to rename PDF files within the notes app. Currently the only way I have found that works is to save first to my files, rename and upload to a notes folder. Regardless, I still highly recommend.

Note taking itself is an art, and from one person to another, the intention behind note-taking differs, here are different scenarios on why a person wants to take notes : 1. Writing a grocery list 2. Quickly jotting something down to find it later 3. Writing essays or complex ideas (creative individuals) 4. Jotting down dreams right after sleep 5. A personal library for personal documents (passports, identity cards etc..) 6. A personal encyclopedia as a knowledge base, if you are interested in learning about multiple domains or languages 7. A gigantic knowledge base with timelines, mind-maps, tables, code, screenshots, quotes, drawings, graphs about all domains of life With Apple Notes you can do : 1, 2, 4, 5 For 3, 6, 7 you need Obsidian or Notion or some other similar tool, why? Because these tools tend to have a plugin ecosystem that provides solutions for mind-maps, drawings and links between different notes etc... If you download Obsidian or Notion for your grocery list, you are overcomplicating it If you use Apple Notes as a gigantic (and useful) knowledge base, you are oversimplifying it In a nutshell : It depends.

So you can organise the notes in folders with/without tags but still the most basic function is absent. You may not organise the notes manually. Instead, you are forced to organise them by date creation or modification, shared, mentions, attachments etc. The whole goal of Apple notes is simplicity and yet the most simple thing is still -after all these years- still not available: No way to organise the notes truly as you want.

Love this! Please do a video about the Reminders app too. It's also very easy and effective and no one I know ever uses it unfortunately.

I've experienced the ease of using Notes when I had Zoom classes. It's so easy to take presentation screenshots and just add it on the floating notes. The tags also did make it easier. When I open Safari, I manage to save the URL quicker. Overall a smoother and non-invasive app because it's a native app that has been given its integrated features like float shortcut, URL quick saver, and the like. Plus since my iphone and ipad are dated, the lack of space can be aided by my gdrive(cloud doesn't really help me much with its 5GB lol) It's really helpful, but maybe it's also because I tend to get bored of using the same thing and wanting to try something new to make it "interesting" (functionality tends to fall second coz I'm so demotivated and uninterested ugh, kill me) -- which leads me to also use Obsidian for structured notes on the side and some Notion when I need templates for quick database set-up. I get overwhelmed but at the same time, the redundancy helps in having to think about the topic I'm putting here and there in different ways. And the changing app sort of adds a little more awareness of what I'm doing contrary to the weird white noise experience when I'm using one app always.

I have only had my apple iPad for a few months. Low tech man here. I use only the notepad thing to hold lyrics and chord work for the band that I am in. Today's update has added a thumbnail to each note in the title listing, which takes up some of the room where text used to be. Hoping I can get rid of the thumbnails in the note listings. Thanks.

I love the simplicity of the Notes, and I'm glad that they will FINALLY be adding the ability to link to other notes soon. My biggest complaint with Notes, though, is how ugly it is. No matter how organized I am it's a gray, ugly mess that's hard to read at a glance. I tried switching to Bear for this very reason because they use colors and heading sizes that actually look visually different, where I get tons of visual cues as to what I'm looking at. Miles better. But Bear also offered too many features and made me feel overwhelmed. Plus it costs money for some of it. I just wish Apple would make it look nicer. Not sure how an app that's been around this long still looks so bad.

Finally, someone who has said it, though I personally believe that the reason it looks so ugly is because the Notes app is SO simple and SO barebones on its UI that it has the reverse effect and it starts to look to cluttered and hard to understand when you look at it, if that makes any sense at all. Now if you have many, many folders and notes and your notes are actually done nice I find that this problem seems to go away for the most part, though not entirely.

Kind of. Another thing I liked about Bear was that the folder system was based on tags. My notes in Notes are sorted into broad folders and then one layer of sub folders, but I still often forget exactly where something is. Notes can often fit in many different folders, and when they're excluded to one, that actually makes it somewhat confusing as well. Overall, the entire app really needs some TLC.@@treytonternes1349

I don’t think Notes is _ugly_, a little plain but not ugly. I like it. Zero distractions.

The only thing that notes is missing in My opinion is the ability to put a “tiny” url. Like if I want to copy/paste a website adress, I done necessarily wants to have the whole url displayed. Like on windows, reddit, etc. You can with ctrl+k on outlook for exemple, paste you url, and give a name to the link you just created. So it would appear like let’s say: “website” in blue underline, when you click on it it goes to the website you linked.

Unless I missed something recently introduced I have always found it frustrating that there is no way to _go up_ the parent folder like you can with the Finder on a Mac or with better notes apps like Alfons Schmid's Notebooks.

The problem with the table is that the text/content in the table is hard to align. I wish this note tool could be a good source for development work - just like 1 stop mall!
