I've run out of patience with olive oil. Now I just eat a stupefying volume of organic olives - I'm very happy with my olives. The oils I maintain at my skillet are 1) avocado ~50% of the time, then 2) Ghee, 3) coconut oil, 4) bacon fat. Then insuring a positive Omega 3 balance, supplementing with Cod Liver oil, Krill Oil and sardines & Mackerel. Down with inflammation !!

I live in Spain. We use olive oil for absolutely everything: dressing, cooking, frying... really there are people who think you can't cook with it? It's perfect for cooking!
@pygmalioninvenus60574 жыл бұрын
Maybe perfect for flavor but not perfect for health. I lived in Barcelona for 5 years, am Spanish by descent, and I wouldn't look to my countrymen for health advice. They're known for being heavy smokers and having a laid back attitude of "I'm here for a good time not a long time". Love Spain but their health is far from optimal.

Davie Donna Spain is always ranked top5 in life expectancy ratings. Your perceptions are biased
@denniswilliamson68994 жыл бұрын
Tian Armas! YES!!! Though I prefer to cook outdoors because of the smoke! The smoke IS proof of oxidation, however, the neat thing is that that smoke does NOT render the oil as being either oxidized or unhealthy! Rather, that smoke is much like the steaming sublimation we witness from ice! So, in the end, there isn't a biological oxygen demand. Merely a chemical oxygen demand that is only on the surface of the extra virgin olive oil. I use it to protect all my meats before cooking! Thomas has warned that your macros will be affected by your canned meats being covered by olive oils. True. But, like he often says these days it's not the end of the world. Be not afraid to improve your health by cooking thusly! Stand your ground! Continue to be a proud Spaniard! Bear in mind that Thomas DeLauer is absolutely right about everything else!

Or like "avocado oil mayo" that is mostly vegetable & canola with avocado in there somewhere. And for those companies that do it right, we have to pay double, triple, or quadruple the price! Americans need to be more savvy... we're getting there, it's just a slow process and so many times price trumps quality for people (myself included). Such a frustrating fact!

It won’t work. I’m a icu nurse in a trauma center and drug companies/MDs literally push how beneficial surgeon procedures or any and all pharmacologicals are but almost none of them are. Research and science is explosive not explorative. I said all that to say this: companies will lie whether it’s on the product label or on the research and they’ll back it up with the 2 in 10 favorable studies they have while they sit on the other 8. They’ll lobby and throw money at the regulatory agency to play ball and they’ll do it. From a watch to nutrition to medicine and anywhere else, that’s the evil side of capitalism. Gotta take the bad with the good and just try to keep it simple

I am from Spain where most people cook with olive oil. The quality of oil here might be better than there but it is said not cook with extra virgin olive oil but instead to use refined olive oil precisely because the virgin has polyphenols and other stuff that will oxidize. I don't think the refined olive oil here is already oxidized as the bottles will often list the peroxide index and other undesirable products. Sometimes the lack of throat stinging can be due to the variety, most would sting but my favorite one from Arbequina olives doesn't and has almost no bitterness either but a nutty and somewhat fruity flavor. But most of the time you are right, it should be harsh on the throat. I believe that olive oil is what lies behind Spanish longevity and definitely felt worse during a time I switched to sunflower oil due to cost (1/2 to 1/3 cheaper). Avocado oil is rare and really expensive here.

Culinarily speaking, if you are going to cook with it, don't use extra virgin olive oil (don't listen to Rachel Ray) use regular olive oil. Heating EVOO destroys the benefits that you would get so you're better off just using regular. Now if you're drizzling it on your salad or on something that you have already cooked (soups, grilled meats, etc) then yes use the EVOO. As long as it's under 200 degrees Fahrenheit, that is the critical temp.

Olive oil goes as follows. I buy cheap extravergine oil in the store - for cocking and buy real oil from farmers in the coastal region for 10-15 bucks for adding it to finished dishes.

Does it matter if the avocado oil is regular or cold-pressed if you want to use it for cooking? Or is the only difference the nutritional content?

My takeaway from this is olive oil is fine. As long as you're not cooking with it. Not really crazy about the taste of avocado oil.

How about some specific brand names that are good. Do any of the Costco varieties measure up?

www.barianioliveoil.com/ or cobramestate.com/ are THE best of the best. A LOT of what's on store shelves fails. Perhaps start here for some ideas: www.realfoodforlife.com/which-olive-oil-to-buy-the-olive-oil-fraud/

Would you consider adding PERILLA OIL to one of your videos. High Omega 3's as opposed to any other oil. Thanks
