My retired Grey will be 10 in June and she's still going strong. We rescued her Aug 9, 2013 and she's been a joy ever since. She's white with black patches and black ticking. She's very smart, sometimes a little to smart, and has been running the house ever since. She's my best friend! She gets along with every dog she see's and is very people friendly. I live close to the beach in Southern California and I tell people Greys would make the perfect surfer Dude Dog. Hang a pair of sunglasses on their long nose, some chin whiskers and a straw hat and they would fit right in.

Aren’t they amazing? All so alike with that sweet, trusting nature and eyes that look into your soul, yet each one different in beautiful ways that show their individual personalities. Olive made me smile and also shed a few tears watching her run for herself only, out of pure joy. Thank you for a wonderful video of an enchanting and obviously loved girl.

She's absolutely adorable. Her markings are almost identical to our last boy's (prior to our latest very own, "helpful" hound!) Watching her reminded me of character traits from many of my own dear hounds had over 30+ years. Each one is such a character in their own right but there are typical greyhound traits that are in them all. We long ago came to the conclusion that the ultimate aim in life of a retired hound is to figure out how to eat and sleep at the same time. Our first blue boy nearly achieved it! They're excellent family dogs. Brought up 4 kids alongside up to 3 hounds at a time and never once had a moment's worry. In fact our eldest was nannied by my first girl - she even spanked him once! Seriously. But it was on his nappy so it didn't hurt. She'd done that once to a lab pup we fostered when it was nibbling a bit too hard on her. So, although every dog of every breed comes with a "be sensible around kids" label, if you want a fab family dog, look into getting a hound!

Mandy B that’s so lovely to hear! They are wonderful pets, and such a shame that they are so often misunderstood. My Olive adores kids, and usually makes a bee line to them when she sees some, and just wants to lick their faces. Gorgeous that yours was a nanny to your kids! That’s so sweet. But yes, as with any dog, always remember they’re animals and should be supervised with kids regardless of how much they usually love them. Thanks for watching ❤️

Olive's power saving mode is much more dignified than my boy Dodge's version. It comes it two flavors: grunting naptime or frozen roach. The latter involves a dramatic sculpturesque pose in which he lays on his back spread-eagle, sticks one foreleg straight into the air, and lets his toungue fall where ever gravity takes it. Apparently this is extremely relaxing and not even a little bit embarassing. Greyhounds are definitely special.

Are you sure that's a greyhound? When my hound gets a treat, he likes to leave an equal amount of slobber on the floor. This can be embarrassing when he visit's hospitals and nursing homes (he's a therapy dog), and I have to carry paper towels to wipe up the drool so people don't slip on it. But the rest...ALL TRUE!

I totally dislike when people feed dogs from the table. Doing this creates a bad habit for the dog. Feeding a dog scrapes from the table can be very annoying; to have a dog starring at you, watching every morsel you put in your mouth is not good training. I truly wish owners would refrain from demonstrating their love in such a manner. There are so many better ways to love your dog. I was a dinner guest at a friend's house who fed her dog from the table. The dog went begging from person to person, making them feel guilty, until food from the plate was given. The dog made it impossible to enjoy having that meal with my friend. Owners beware. Don't even start such an obnoxious habit; feed the dog in his/her dish, not off the table.
@NataliePowellAGreytLife4 жыл бұрын
Nora Arico sorry to hear your friend’s day made it an unpleasant visit for you. However, Olive only gets little treats from the table when she’s invited to. She loves to be close to where I am whatever I’m doing, so sometimes that means standing near me at the table not to beg for food, but just to be close to me, and sometimes I give her a little treat because I love her and enjoy her company and close bond I have with her. As an ex racer who would have spent her time either earning money for people on the track or being locked in kennels away from human company, I love to spoil her with contact which she absolutely craves. Sometimes when I’m at the table she just stands next to me with her head resting on my leg. She just wants to be close.
