The car completes the character. Sykes' custom-built, handcrafted limousine is most likely a 1970's Lincoln Continental Mark IV Town Car with a mix of Cadillac and Oldsmobile on the outside and a mix of GM and Chevy Monte Carlo on the inside. Imagine if Sykes travelled to Michigan, to the original Lincoln Motor Co. in Detroit just to commission building his car, picking black for stealth capability and a mini-statue of his two Dobermans for a hood ornament. Not to mention a car from this era was considered a sport car based on the 4WD feature and the force it took to drive it. Later on, Sykes is grinding gears chasing Fagin and his pals through the subway, breaking the handle off the gear shift, flooring the gas pedal all the way, and burning rubber off his tires. So badass!
@phil955 Жыл бұрын
It's a Lincoln Continental, but not a Town car and a mix of a Mark IV and V, hence the small air outlets behind the wheels and the vertical rear lights. Other then that, spot on, i couldn't agree more. It's one of the meanest cars out there and is what makes Sykes such a memorable character. Without it, he'd just be another brute.

Then rosco and Desoto see the three and a keyblade in soras hand which they have no idea what it is but Sykes finishes his meet with said underling and desides to keep an eye on them. Then later on the three get to meet not only dodger and his friends but also Oliver, rosco and Desoto and Bill with faigen (sorry if I spelled it wrong) and Bill get his chance to see the three from before. Bill also takes a mental note on the trio in front of his car while talking to faigen. The three smell Sykes' cigar from where they're standing and cough a little. Donald takes a really good look at Sykes car and he notices that it could be alive in its own right. The trio look at the ornament on top of the grill. Bill still takes mental notes of their movements and what the do while dealing with faigen at the same time. He notices the three coming closer to the ornament and looking at it. He gives a small smirk with a cigar hanging off his lip. He finally says to faigen "who are those three with ya faigen? The have good taste." To this faigen replys with "friends of mine that I just met Sykes. Uh hehe I was out shopping when I ran into them. But I can get you your money I promise Sykes please." Sykes looking at the trio says calmly to faigen "fine faigen I'll give you three days to get the money. Three days no more no less got it." He then honks his horn to call rosco and Desoto back to which faigen falls into the water below the peir. While sora Donald and goofy just jump back as the horn sounds off. Sykes then says while rolling down his window "hey! You three come here. I see you like my car. Beautiful isn't it from front to back I know I wouldn't trade it for anything." The three of them just shake their heads at Sykes and not saying a word. Sykes then says "I'm sure we'll meet each other again soon enough for now though enjoy what you see." *honks horn two times, then shortly three*

I know this is semi based on Oliver Twist and i’m really glad there isn’t a Nancy analog in this movie.

On that bombshell, I did an OC for this film, and funny you should say that, she’s kinda Nancy. Something is wrong with me, I’m sure of it.

0:07 Possibly the best view of the car I’ve ever seen, Anyway, I’m working on a 1 foot long hood ornament. The prototype is only 11.7 inches or about the length of the typical A4 paper also it’s all for Dolly Dane Dalmatian.

Ok I ran some calculations on Oliver and Company specifically on how much cold money Fagan owed Sykes $22,000 was landed to Fagan for poker but then lost everything and with a 100% interest rate per week according to one guy he had to deal with a loan shark for four years & If this is true for Fagan, then this happened in 1984 long story short Fagan owed him $4.576 million no wonder why Sykes was desperate enough to drive his car into a subway and kidnap a young child Jenny.

I might be stretching this, as when this film was made as it was based on a oliver and twist film. I do sense the Ragon and Thatcher on a subverting way, neoliberalism (That was prominent then.) where the homeless man is an underdog in the view of the mass sociaty, even more so in the 80s of social class struggle. Very intimidating from the person in the car. For a disney film very well illustrated between two classes of people. Even the car and camera moving hearing the noise, lights and electrics makes it eary of the situation. I havent watched this in years. But as time has gone on you do see something of it. The villian is just unsettling. And homeless man I really liked and a nice soul in a soulless place just about money and status.

If they ever made a live-action version of Oliver & Company (with the dogs/ cats replaced by homeless kids and Oliver as a ginger-headed orphan) I would LOVE to see them cast Eugene Levy as Sykes. Tell me you can’t picture him grabbing Daniel Stern/ Rob Schneider (as Fagan) by the collar and saying “Three days, Fagan. Three. I want my money, or else someone like you might get hurt”. Then blowing a big puff of cigar smoke in his face. Levy would be a genuine badass in that role.

Marlon Brando was offered the role of Sykes by the head of the Walt Disney Company Michael Eisner himself. Brando, however, turned it down, fearing the movie would bomb. Although it is stated in the film that Fagin owes money to Sykes, it is never said what the exact amount was or when Fagin borrowed the money. However an earlier version of the script, Fagin borrowed money from Sykes to bet in an illegal poker tournament, possibly to help cover living costs, before losing all of it. If we were to assume this was the same case in the movie, Fagin may have been able to convince Sykes that he would get his money back once he got his winnings.
