It is always a breath of fresh air to see someone who is being themselves.
@DeadSerious13 ай бұрын
A sight seldom seen in this day and age. Actors now seem to bland their work into their daily lives. It’s very hard to tell which is the character or which is the actor when they’re doing interviews. Not in a Tom cruise sort of way. Where he only ever plays the one character in films (Tom cruise plays Tom cruise in mission impossible whichever one for example) I mean they rarely show them true selves which I think is why it’s hard to feel the way about recent actors as we did about those who were before them….
@itsgleneaton48833 ай бұрын
@@DeadSerious1 You hit it on the nail. They were being themselves. I know they all had good voices and an instinct for it when your in front of the cameras but they were genuine. Actors are either lifeless today or a ball of ego. And what is the mainstream attitude of today lifeless and egos for life imitates art but art must imitate life. .
@DeadSerious13 ай бұрын
@@itsgleneaton4883 yes exactly. The thing is, this day and age everyone is so paranoid and frightful about being judged, accused or cancelled that it’s half understandable that they choose to keep their true identity out of the public eye. It would be refreshing to see a celebrity like those of days past, people like Oliver Reed, Mae West etc, who were far from afraid of being judged and therefore not scared to show their true identity to the world. But then, would it be so surprising and so out of the realm of “ordinary” (in today’s standards) if a celebrity who oozed charisma, had an abundance of confidence and wasn’t afraid of being themselves that we had a glimpse of who they really were and would be so unused to it that they would be labelled unstable, insane and extraordinary (in the bad sense) that they wouldn’t be able to hold onto fame for too long because the public didn’t have any trust for them? These are the times we’re living in. With celebrities like Diddy, Epstein and the like, celebrities are viewed with a lot of suspicion simply because they are celebrities…. The bad guys are getting away with it and the good guys are being treated as suspicious without having done anything. Crazy time to be a celebrity I think….
@glamdolly305 жыл бұрын
Oliver Reed was a remarkable man, in so many ways. I really admire that he was true to himself always, and lived his life as he wanted. He didn't like other actors and he despised the 'false' elements of showbusiness. He chose to socialise with what he regarded as real people - working men, the builders who worked on his house for example. Every morning he'd take them to the pub for a quick one before they started work on his stately home, Broome Hall. Of course they'd end up boozing there all day, then Ollie would complain that they hadn't done any work and his house renovations, which were supposed to be completed in weeks, took months! But still he couldn't resist dragging them all down to the pub to keep him company! When drunk, he'd get aggressive. Christopher Lee once said he learned to leave when Ollie started his eighth drink, because he knew he would soon turn into a devil. His rage was often directed at females, and I suspect he had a complicated relationship with his mother, who split from his father when he was just a year old. He said as a child he would act as barman at home, pouring drinks for his mother's many lovers - most of whom flew Spitfires, and were killed in the war. Did he resent these men visiting his mother I wonder, and grow to fear women's sexual power? Little boys can be possessive about their mums. Oliver Reed was so much more than a hell raiser. He was an intelligent, articulate and sensitive man who appreciated beauty, grew beautiful flowers in his beloved gardens, and loved animals. He said he wanted to kiss the wet nose of every dog in the world - it was said he could never pass a dog without petting it. I think that's a wonderful epitaph for him. At his request, his gravestone (placed within walking distance of his local pub in Ireland), reads: HE MADE THE AIR MOVE. He certainly did that!
