Haven't even watched it yet but the title made my brain go 'big fish, little fish, cardboard box' and that's going to be my day now

I was thinking for the 100th episode could you guys do a livestream via KZbin, where you just talk about topics from the emails or from the comments. Then it can last longer then the Instagram hour. Just an idea 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is amazing to see, because literally everyone knows Carrie, and she’s such a HUGE presence within the theatre community! It just incredible how humble she is, it’s so endearing and makes her even more likeable! Just adore her! ❤️❤️❤️ xx

Pufferfish! So cute! :D I've definitely been a big fish in a small pond in my life before. The first time, it felt good. I had friends, I was well liked, I was happy. The second time, everyone hated me for being the big fish, so it was a huge drag. I definitely enjoyed becoming a small fish in a big pond after that. These days I feel more like a beached whale just laying on the shore waiting to die. I've done all the things I've wanted to do, don't really have any goals at this point, and am not terribly interested in life any more. I'm hoping that will change when / if my health improves. I do enjoy your videos and look forward to them each day, so thank you for this bit of sunshine each day! :)

I agree with Oli about separating periods of like into ponds - I do have segments of my life where I've almost been cocky about my abilities and that's always been in jobs that aren't my big dream. The one job I've done in the sector I never felt like that, even when I was clearly excelling. I think passion and interest have a big involvement for me, because I haven't wanted to be a small fish for a job I don't love, because I don't care enough

when brits say the time i have absolutely no clue whats happening. half six. what is that? half PAST six? half an hour before six? cause in german, when you say 'halb sechs' (half six) it means it's 5:30. but im never sure with brits saying that lmao

I’ve worked out that I get to big Fish in a small pond around 6 years in each job. My first job I did from age 16-23 - I spent 6.5 years there and started to look for something else around the 6 year mark as felt that I was bored and stagnant. Needed to be more fulfilled. I then moved to my second job age 23- 29. Again, I’ve been there 6.5 years and I started looking for something at year 6 as, as much as I love the industry, it was clear that there was no way to progress. I’m now about to start my third job. So we will see if I’m right and in 6 years time, I’m seeking something else! First job: retail Second job: leisure Third job: medicine

The thing is the goalposts only move if you're getting challenged in other ways. I think Carrie was right, she probably didn't feel held back or suffocated by those rules because she was already a professional child actor in a west end show. When I was a kid I was considered a very intelligent child. And because of that I'd raise my hand a lot, because I knew the answer. And it got to the point where I was being ignored and in some classes told to stop raising my hand because other kids needed a chance. Which was fine, and fair in hindsight but like Carrie I was just like "Oh. Alright." But unlike Carrie, I wasn't in another spot where I was getting challenged academically or otherwise. So I stagnated, and then that evolved into me no longer trying because I didn't see a point? I was being told I was too smart and I had to stop answering questions. So I stopped trying to learn the material I was being told I couldn't answer for. Caused a lot of problems later and I'm still trying to unlearn that mindset I got into when I was really little. So I was a big fish in someway even though I didn't actively feel like that but rather than being able to move up in the ponds I was more forced into a fishbowl to wait for all the other fish to grow too.

I feel like I’ve been big fish most of my time at school!😂 I was always in like for example, middle set in maths but I was top end of the middle set so it felt like I was a big fish. I went to a small school where it wasn’t really being a big fish in a small pond I was a small fish in a small pond which is the perfect pace to be if you feel like a small fish

When they first introduced the topic, I thought about it theatre-wise. With big fish in a small pond being the principal role in a smaller production (off-West End maybe) and small fish in a big pond being an ensemble role in a bigger West End show. Anyone else??
@XheyJJx
@XheyJJx 4 жыл бұрын
Also, I think you may be right Carrie about not feeling the big fish thing because you were already doing what you wanted to do. I was in the same situation, wasn’t allowed to enter talent shows and couldn’t have a ‘decent’ part in the shows but I didn’t really care as at the time I was doing Billy Elliot in The west end. So people were like ‘oh it’s really sad you can’t join in’ but I was like ‘well I couldn’t do it anyway as I’m only here half the week because I’m doing billy’

I sort of feel like I've been the big fish in a small pond and a small fish in a big pond. So I was in a drama group and had been going since I was 3 and didn't leave until 18. So I had been going the longest and was the oldest. When I had to leave the junior group as it was, they set up an adult group and I decided to go. I walked in and as soon as people saw it was me, they said 'oh well that's the main part gone then.' I rarely got a main part in my junior group but as I'd been acting for 15 years, to the adults I was a massive pro despite being many years younger than them. I made the decision after a few weeks to leave that group as I felt a bit like I'd done everything because the adults were doing the same shows as the juniors, just as adults - so I'd done all these shows before and knew the dances and stuff. So when I left, I went to a different adult group and suddenly felt very small. I didn't really know anyone, they didn't really know me, they had no expectations of me or had seen me in productions and I was the youngest also. So it was a massive shift. I've been there two years now and so I don't feel as out of my depth as I did but I'll still never be the big fish. I'll always be more of a normal sized fish in a normal size pond.

It's not the same subject but, in regards to people holding you back, it happened to me, in school, I was a little bit further ahead in reading than my class and instead of the teachers letting me read on or progressing me, they kept me back because my class were further behind. I understand its difficult when you are dealing with a whole class, but is it fair to hold a child back and not let them flourish? Idk.
