At the 9:30 mark at the very end of “Honestly,” a single tear rolls down her far cheek. If Olivia was willing to tell me, I would want to know for what or for whom that tear was shed. That song might have had some real-world emotional baggage for her that she didn’t share with the public. In any event, that tear is a stunning piece of sincerity coming out in a work of art. I was a teen-aged boy when this came out in the early/mid 1970s. Your first crush is the hardest. Now it’s October 2022, I’m almost 65, and I’m sobbing like a baby on seeing this. Teach the angels how to sing Olivia, I honestly love you.

@@debbiepotter4592 that's kind of the sad part about the Carpenters. Richard was a little too controlling when it came to Karen and the "Carpenter sound." Richard did not want to go out of his comfort zone so to speak, whch probably meant no duets other than Karen. He wouldn't even let Karen release her own solo album for the fear of Karen might have outshined him. Sad.

For everyone watching this for the first time: watch the "camera work" when she sings "I honestly love you." After a short while at the start of the song, the camera shot moves to closeup of her face. It NEVER moves again. It stays there until the very end. If you're not mesmerized by the end of the song, there's something wrong with your emotional make-up. Unforgettable.

These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. She & Linda Ronstadt were the 2 female singers of the 70s who every man wanted (most every man) & all the girls wanted to be because they were so beautiful and talented. Olivia won a lot of CMA awards & received a lot of criticism for it because she wasn't "country," although Olivia had nothing to do with getting nominated. One of the best female singers, loved her "high" voice.

Here's a fun factiod that I'm pretty sure I heard on Casey Kasem's American Top 40; That performance had a big part in 'I Honestly Love You' being released as a single in the USA. The reaction from the audience was so strong Olivia went back to MCA and said 'you have to release that as a single'.

I'd believe it. That wasn't just polite applause that died down quickly. And her reactions are subtle but unmistakable. Pleased at first, then biting her lip. But then it goes on and she seems quite overwhelmed.

1 John 2:15-17 New Living Translation 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. James 4:4 New Living Translation 4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God." Mark 8:36 New Living Translation 36 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

I really miss her. She was such a bright refreshing star. So soft in her voice. Not violent and agressive like the sounds of today. The world had a certain innocents with her voice and person. Life was simpler and much more pleasent then. It was more relaxing and we were more reassured about the present and future. Its hard to describe unless you were there and had the experience.

She started out as a country artist in Australia and sang the most nymphlike version of 'Jolene' back in the mid 70's - the best take on this song ever I believe. Literally Narcissus' 'Echo', a garden goddess. Well before I even left Australia and came to America, she made it big in the U.S. in the late 70's and early 80's and became much more sophisticated. I think it was a duet she did with Gene Kelly in 'Xanadu' while they danced together that was the next most dreamy thing I've ever heard from her, and harkened back to her innocent country girl roots.
