We don’t talk about Olivia Newton-John enough. No we don’t. 50 years of impressive career, being one of the best selling female singers and having a well-refined singing approach, never dodged a high note when a song called for, it’s admirable how she has sustained the quality of her voice throughout her career. And I think nowadays, she just doesn’t get enough credits and praises for what she deserved as a vocalist.
She has a high soprano voice, small output, but incredibly clear and fluid, with soaring high notes in her head register. Definitely her most impressive register. She has demonstrated so much uses out of it. It’s effortless, smooth and flexible, and has never really worn out throughout her career. Her belting is not too far behind. In studio, we have witnessed her belting into top 5th octave and lower 6th octave region numerous times. In a live setting, she’s more reserved in that range, but still has many stunning moments, even at the age of 60, 70.
Her vocal prime definitely took place in around 1976 - 1985, when she was around 28 - 37. Ideal matured time for a woman’s voice, together with transitioning to pop music, which gave her more room to explore her soprano range, she became a vocal force then. Her high notes were so unique, nobody was seeing her! After her prime, while battling many bouts of health issues and personal problems, it’s so admirable that she’s still such a positive person, with the voice that still can do pretty much most of what it used to be able to do. And we truely love her for that.
I hope this video make you love Olivia Newton-John a little more. I know Olivia was everybody’s celebrity crush back in the 70s. For those who are less familiar, maybe take a little dive into her discography and appreciate her music, her voice and her shining personality.
I hope you enjoyed this video, and I will be back with more videos soon!

She was definitely an underrated singer who wasn’t over promoted, but should have been seen more...Blessed with this beautiful soprano voice, talent, range, and amazing vocal abilities...She came out in the 1970s with her own unique style, yet very natural...And she sang with such emotion... She is definitely One of a Kind...

By the mid 1980s she was the top female Billboard Hot 100 artist of all time (and top 10 of all artists at that point on the Hot 100 chart; Aretha was second among women). Then Madonna, Mariah, Whitney, Janet, etc came along. But crazy how little she's talked about today given her huge success. She's still #20 of all time.

Great job on making this video. I've been waiting years for a video like this. Olivia has been very over shadowed and not mentioned by many for her vocal abilities. I think she was one of the best singers vocally in the 1970's and 1980's. Her album Gaia, back with a heart and even hotel sessions show off her vocal abilities. Again great video, thank you for sharing this.

@@QanhMusicz She was diagnosed with cancer in 1992, just as she was planning a comeback tour for her Back To Basics album. She had to cancel the tour, and any promotion for the album in order to concentrate on her health. From that point on, she became more of a niche artist, writing albums that appealed to her, and not as concerned with commercial success, and also acting in the occasional project. The rise of Madonna in the mid 80s had a lot to do with ONJs career cooling off. She got married and had a baby during that time, and her career never caught fire the same way it did in the pre-Madonna days.

Listen to her sing Jolene or Pony Ride on the Come on Over album, or Please don’t keep me Waiting on Totally Hot, or the end of Sam on the Don’t Stop Believing album, her upper range is really to the fore. I was at the 2013 RAH concert (shown here singing Sam) we were astonished at the clarity of her voice and purity of her pitch at 65! Though I had the records and knew she had that amazing voice throughout her career. Since her last battles with cancer her voice is lower and has a crackle in it that I do t always love, but my goodness if that’s the price she pays for being with us and continuing to bring such joy, I’m happy.
