I lived in the Philippines from 09 to 13 because my company opened a branch there. When she heard they were into karaoke, that was an understatement. They call it videoke and you cannot walk through a barangay on a weekend night without hearing several houses singing. Of course, not all Filipinos can sing well, but most can really sing. I went out several times with the friends I made there and we would end up in a bar that had a videoke machine. All of them would get up and sing. Now, they do not make enough tequila to get me up there to sound like a female cat in heat. (And I am a male.) I had a lot of fun in those 4 years. Can't wait to go back.
@khrysztoffe272 ай бұрын
Just like Olivia who makes a lot of money by being a singer songwriter, Filipinos are passionate in singing and being singers/vocalists because not just singing makes us feel better and bond us together, for many it brings food in the table as many professional singers perhaps way back in their past days went joining every amateur singing competitions to win the cash prize for basic needs. Some sings in some occasions such as wedding, birthdays, etc. that hires singers to entertain the audience thus singing is viewed here in The Philippines as a noble/decent way of making a living. A wise adage tells us that 'A Family that prays together, stays together' But Filipinos know as well that A Family/Community that sings together, binds together.

However, when I watched her concert in Australia, I felt an overwhelming urge to lash out at the Australian next to me. That was when I truly realized how different the Filipino crowd is. 😂😂❤❤❤

@lindziep6319 you're right on that one. And for an introvert who doesn't want to open her mouth and speak in front of strangers and crowds as a child (much more, sing) that was terrifying. Add to that the choir coach who was absolutely brilliant but also very terror na nanunuktok ng ulo gamit ang mga malalaki nyang singsing kapag nasisintunado kami, ay grabe. She was a tiny woman, we towered over her but she had a very huge personality and very strict-- no ice cream or cold liquids, etc. Di ako tumagal ng ilang buwan even if I love singing 😅😂
@AnjLove012 ай бұрын
Well it could be from singing at an early age of our national anthem, on sundays it would be singing when we hear mass, and some night when there are occasions apart from when we watched local shows where there will always have singing contests on a regular basis. Then lullabies we sing to maybe our younger siblings when we put them to sleep and when we are in the tummy, im sure our mother’s will sing to us while waiting for us to be born. 😅 So early on filipinos are exposed to a singing culture. 😂😅

lol not true, stop spreading false info. majority of filipinos aren't good singers. a select few can sing and they can be exceptionally good at that but you can't say the same for the rest of the population. I mean, can you swear that 9 out of 10 people you know can compete in a singing competition?
@TheGreatestComebacks2 ай бұрын
@@lumie372 lmao if your level of recognition of a filipino who's good at singing is by competing in a singing competion, then that statement alone is enough proof of the level Filipinos who can sing. Just means we have a great culture when it comes to music and singing to produce a lot of people who can sing. CAN SING doesn't mean you're supposed to be at the level who can compete in a singing competition. Can sing just means you are not tone deaf. Singing is a skill that you can learn. But given the fact that Filipinos have karaoke at every occassion birthdays,Christmas, New Year, and etc. Makes it believeable that Filipinos knows how to sing and majority of us are probably good at it compared to other countries.
@lumie3722 ай бұрын
@TheGreatestComebacks people "who can sing" means being a good singer, not just anyone who can literally pick up a mic and sing. that's like saying most of your friend knows how to draw just because they can use a pencil or maybe your standard's just low lmao if that's your definition of "who can sing", then most people in the world can, not just filipinos
