This was jumping off NYC radio stations in the spring/summer of 84. Memories of heading down the Jersey Shore or out to Coney Island and hearing this on car radios while stuck in traffic on the Garden State Parkway or the Belt parkway still vivid. BTW not only was Jerry a great vocalist with Ray Parker, but Ollie was a great session drummer and played on some classic albums most notably Stevie Wonder’s🎼

This is my jam. People were all getting along in this movie which makes me cry today. Ollie & Jerry were in the band with Ray Parker named Raydio. Songs by Raydio such as Jack & Jill and U can’t change that!👍🏻

The dance styles that were popular in the West coast at the time this track was made, we called 'popping' and 'locking'. Locking started in early 70 with Don Campbellock, popularized by the group "The Lockers"; interesting enough, Shabba Doo (who's in the video) was part of that group. Popping is a little more complicated in terms of its origin, but many credit "Boogaloo" Sam Solomon and the "Electric Boogoloos" for popularizing. With popping, there are various styles; waving, ticking, animation, twist-o-flex, cobra (Mysterious Poppers), puppet, bopping, and botting. Some of the dancers in this video, Boogaloo Shrimp, Poppin Pete, and the late Bruno "Poppin Taco" Falcon; were some of the best poppers of all-time.

@@paulmac63 Thanks but don’t give me too much credit: I was one of the subs who suggested Ollie & Jerry. 😂 That said, I do have varied musical tastes and love to endorse ppl on the fringe. I touted “Lily Is Here” bc not only is it a great song but it would break the stranglehold that the usual suspects have over the 80’s one hit wonder domain. Also, It would incorporate a cool, jazzy sound into the theme and Dave Stewart is the icing in the cake. It’s a long shot so let’s hope it got some Patreon love as well.

It's ok! The 1980's just seems like such an artificial decade for some reason! On a positive note, I recommend the group Imagination performing Just An Illusion! The lyrics are very thought provoking and mystical! Maybe this is all just a simulation, who knows! Exit, stage left!
