I am Bulgarian and I must say that this work is greatly done! You included details, rarely included in average mapping videos! Bravo, Ollie! I was particularly impressed that you included the Goryani resistance. A few notes to add for Bulgaria: -maybe it would have been better to still include leaders in Bulgaria from 1944 to 1989, with the addition that it was a Soviet satellite state -being part of NATO and EU, since they are formal institutions that somewhat limit sovereignty should also be added in the Balkan countries that are in them -if you added the autonomous/de facto independent parts of the Ottoman empire (which btw bravo again for that), you should have also included Osman Pazvantoglu's realm. He ruled de facto independently in his realm from 1795 to 1807, with his capital in Vidin Again, overall great and very detailed work!

@@Universal.. Well, you don't necessarily have to look at the Iliad to make that connection about Zeus. The first mention of his name - a form of it anyway - is found in Linear B (di-wo/di-we --> Dias --> Δίας) so we can definitely say that he and other gods like Ares, Artemis, Poseidon, Hera, Dionysus and other deities whose names - forms of names and epithets - were found in Linear B scripts were worshipped in the late Bronze Era. Even earlier by not only the Minoans or Mycenaeans, but other older civilizations. These names are said to be Indo-European. These gods could be Pelasgian, yes, but we can't be sure and we certainly cannot use Homer as an accurate historical source. If he existed in the first place because there's much debate over that, Homer was simply a storyteller, a wordsmith, and not a historian. About the Pelasgian language and alphabet: it's true that small inscriptions were found in Lemnos and Hesiod, Homer and other Greek authors give us no doubt Lemnos's signs are of Pelasgian language. Thing is, the language is completely unknown. Since there is practically insufficient in quantity material and these inscriptions that were found have not been translated, we cannot claim that the alphabet was pelasgian for certain. Personally, I believe that the Greek alphabet could possibly have been based in an older version/palesgian alphabet which was probably developped during the Greek Dark Ages (but before the Iliad and the Odyssey were written) yet there are definitely borrowed letters from the phoenician alphabet, since it was used around the same time the Mycenaean civilization collapsed.

@@davidg7509 First of all I open a parenthesis about the name of Albania or Albanians quoted by Strabo (around 58-21/25) in the 1st century BC and Claudius Ptolemy (around 100 - 170 AD) in the 2nd century AD. It derives from the name of an Illyrian tribe, the Albanoi, which was located around the city of Albanopolis (now Zgërdhesh located in the region of Krujë). Moreover, even today, a region of Albania, from the north of Tirana (between the rivers Mat and Erzen), is called Albëni (gheg dialect) or Arbëri (tosk dialect). Really well done, as usual. I do have two minor complaints. First, why only list one king of Sparta when the city had two kings at a time? Yeah, it would have been a little more work to add in the Eurypontids along with the listed Agiads, but it just looks weird to see just one king, and certain important kings like Agesilaos II are missing as a result.. Secondly, Messenia was independent of Sparta after 370 BC, after the Thebans defeated Sparta at Leuktra the previous year and invaded the Peloponnese; it's only shown as independent here after the formation of the Corinthian League by Philip II (in fact, the whole Theban Hegemony is a bit undersold here).

Simply outstanding, as always! One caveat: Classical Sparta had two parallel kingships, two royal dynasties who were not rivals, and whose power was limited by the ephors, a kind of senate. You only show the kings of the Eurypontid line, but there was also the Agiad dynasty which included Leonidas I (reigned 490-480) of Thermopylae fame. A weird system, no doubt, but the Spartans made it work. Great work as always! Bravo!

This is really well done! But Bulgaria was not a Soviet republic! It was a Soviet satellite similarly to Romania and to some extent Yugoslavia but they all had their own leaders. Yugoslavia is shown with Tito and Romania with Ceasescu while Bulgaria is shown with Soviet leaders...That's actually funny to see but there was a man called Todor Zhivkov who ruled Bulgaria during most of communism. Great video overall. However, as a bulgarian, it would have been better to put the Bulgarian leaders from 1944-89 instead the soviet. This is the same thing as putting the US leaders from 1989-2022. Even though we were practically a satellite state of the Soviet Union, Bulgarian leaders still made the decisions and Bulgarian economy was owned by the state, unlike now, when our economy is predominantly owned by the west.

My only two complaints is the way you showed Basil the II, weren't his campgains...you know conquests. So why are the Bulgrianian campgains shown in the regular roman purple and not the lighter roman purple And two:when showing the roman republic, why not use a term like say: the consular system. Obviously I don't know for sure since I'm not the author, but I suspect it was a mistake or maybe something the author forgot to update in his pre-realease "product", because otherwise he represented Bulgaria (and Romania, for that matter) quite accurately in other periods. I've been working on similar (but unreleased and unfinished) projects myself and it's an immense amount of work to do it right, and even then there will always be people unhappy because this or that detail is not there. But yes, I fully agree with you that the part you mention is not accurate. My guess was that it is related to the WW2 events and the Soviet occupation that followed, because if you look closely, you'll see that, for example, it's only in 1964 that Romania is colored differently than the USSR and its head of state is shown, although technically, it had heads of state continuously in the war and post war period and adopted a more indepedent stance than other USSR satellites, even if under extremely tight Soviet control.
