Very interesting build, and the end product looks great. Perhaps in future you can explain a little more on the details - e.g. why use PU glue, instead of PVA? and what did you mean about the counteracting magnets in the face frame. Also, I'm interested in why you built the face frame first, and then the carcass around that - when many other people do the opposite. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your nice work!!
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 5 жыл бұрын
thankyou very much! :) Sorry for the brief explanations, i tried to fit what i could in on this one, but talking over the finished edit, left me a bit limited on what content i could include. PU glue mainly because its strong, flexible and it sets quickly(allowing you to carry on with a project rather than wait overnight for cascamite/pva etc to set.) It is also compatiable with Accoya and is one of the main reasons i converted to it. i like the cleanup too its nice and easy and doesnt have to be done until its set. The magnets i will do a video on for you. i basically set rare earth magnets into the frame and doors which pull the door into the stop. it works brilliantly. I build the faceframe first as it allows you to set the cabinets up to finish heights. if you domino the bottom of the carcass to the faceframe and the carcass uprights are 0.5mm too high, it needs adjusting. if you assemble and screw the carcass together ontop of the faceframe its going to be prefectly lined up. On more complicated projects it allows you to see what pieces go where which goes a long way to keeping it simple.

@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks once again Chris!!! i set a rare earth magnet into the top and bottom of each door, then one that attracts them in the frame slightly offset. this gives a nice smooth pull to the door, over a decent distance(so not just a holding device it will pull the door closed. a rubber bumper to stop the door makes a nice quality closing sound. ill do a video explaining them soon

Always come back to this video. Even though parts are sped up, you work so efficiently and precisely. With so much work being done with mdf that I see these days I’m trying my best to try not to use it even for large parts like wardrobe end panels etc. What’s your opinion on the stuff?. Do you not use it at all, and would you simply use birch ply for any large panel piece.?
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Oliver. I dont really use MDf no, I try to use Birch ply where possible, but if i need something really flat and stable will use Tricoya MDF. I dont mind MDF where iT isnt seen, or on sprayed items. I tend to mainly work with solid timbers though. The Hydrofugo mdf is meant to be really good.

Great work, Thats a quality piece of furniture! I'd love to have a workshop like yours but the cost must be astronomical!?
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 5 жыл бұрын
Thankyou James!! When i look at the workshop now and the setup, it would seem like an insurmountable task to set it up, but i just started out with a small space, (around 4mx9m) and cobbled a few old machines together, picking them up when a bargain came along, keeping an eye on ebay, local auctions etc, then i have moved workshop when i ran out of space and set it up properly with airlines and new floor, electrics, insulation and dust extraction. that cost a fair whack in time and money but it was well worth it and my business was establised so it was a worthy investment. if i were to setup a workshop in the next couple of months and bought everything as i have it now then it would cost a fortune. but like i say it can be done pretty cheaply!

Thanks Richard, very eagle Eyed! its a Rye Dowel boring machine, it has a head you can install 2 dowel cutters into and it slides back and forth on a bed using pneumatic power to plunge the cutter into the workpiece. I use it for connecting astragal bars together when using a double glazed unit and plant on bars. Its a similar concept to the Mafell DDF40. But a fixed machine.

Hello, thanks for another very informative video. What blade do you have in the bandsaw you use for ripping? What kerf does it take? I'm curious to know why you generally seem to use either the bandsaw, or your wall-mounted board saw for ripping, rather than a normal table saw. Thanks.
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ivan, i use the starret Woodpecer blades from TuffSaws. (m42 blades 1") I dont have room for a panel saw which id like, the wall saw does my sheet work very accurately without much space, and the bandsaw saves me a lot of money over using a circular saw. The thin kerf on multiple cuts often saves timber by getting an extra rip off small components. It also creates zero dust, i hate being covered in and breathing dust from table saw. I can also deep cut to 16". I have a small table saw that i use as and when i need to. (not actually that often)

Great video! I have one question, when installing this type of shaker leg cabinets, if the floor is a bit out of level and shims wouldn't be a option lets say you have 9' of base cabinets, how would you approach this situation?. Thanks for sharing
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 5 жыл бұрын
No worries, I take the levels before I start making and set a happy medium. So some cabinets may be made with slightly longer legs, others can have a bit removed on site. If I'm cutting a leg down on site it's either done with a tracksaw or belt sander to a scored line. If the floor is drastically out, it's drastically out and your going to see it whatever, most people installing a kitchen of a high value will have nice new level floor to be honest. It takes a bit more time to install when the floors aren't level.
