Holy cow!!!!!! Thank you so much for this! I am no Olympian but I resonate so much with her tips and suggestions because I experienced them, too like body line, rotation, breathing angle, kick count, stroke count, recovery, catch and pull, technique, and mindset. I was nodding my head and said yes this the whole 11 minutes lol.

Not an Olympian but yes agree! Thank you so much for this! I don’t feel so weird/bad now especially about breathing on either side! The length the hips fantastic to hear all this I am grateful. I’m so glad I watched this video!

I've been swimming for 10 months, from zero freestyle to 2-45. This is the best video I have seen. So many good tips. Swam 4000m this morning at 2-25. I thought about the info in the video almost constantly. Carry water! Love it.

Brenton/Kiah, Amazing video and advice. A few important areas of focus really help. I struggle when I try to focus on too many areas. (Probably because I have so many opportunities to improve!) Thanks to both for taking the time to share and help us improve.

Brenton! This is awesome! Is it possible to show two videos of her different hip rotation for a short distance event vs a long distance event? I understood conceptionally what she was saying but I fear if I tried to explain this to my pre masters they would end up doing no rotation and just stay flat.

i have tried her style to swim also .. really make move fast ... Just one thing is that my legs feel tired after 50m 😅.. because I am the one lazy to kick so I always use scissor kick two beat as I rotate lol😅

Great interview and information, Brenton and Kiah. She talks about holding the shoulders 'back' in freestyle. This concept is not entirely clear to me. :)
@bellslinki
@bellslinki 3 ай бұрын
Yes this was interesting point. She demonstrated scapula retraction. This puts her shoulders in an advantageous position. I’m guessing it helps in maintaining less rotation through the torso and an easier recovery with the shoulder girdle being quite high relative to the water. I’m going to try this. Easier said than done!!!

As a 62 year old learning to swim for just 3 months, I have some important questions. Why does the pool feel so much colder on cold wet days, even though the pool is heated and in-doors? Why does effortless swimming take so much effort? Why do so many kids swim faster than me? Great interview that only highlights how bad I am at swimming. Now I have a whole new list of technique faults to add to my already long list.

When it's colder outside, your body compensates for it by increasing your body temperature slightly. In the pool, with the same temperature as always, you will lose more heat, because the temperature difference is greater, so it will feel colder. Swimming is always a lot of effort, but you want it to be as effortless (efficient) as possible. Kids swim faster than you, because they have better technique. You need somebody who knows how to swim to correct you. But I can quess what you do wrong: - Breathing way too high up - Maybe you don't exhale under water - You probably tilt your head to far backwards, which leads to your body/feet sinking down - Non-Relaxed recovery phase. Your forearms should be totally relaxed there and they certainly shouldn't point to the ceiling - You probably don't use your shoulders to gain reach as much as you should - Not doing high elbow catch/early vertical forearm will certainly be a problem - You probably move your arms like a windmill, always 180° apart. That's not correct. One arm should glide in front a little, while the other continues to do his thing.

Hi, fellow learner here - been doing this for about a year now. I understand your frustrations and the urge to compare yourself to others. I am regularly out of breathe in the pool whilst swimmers in their 70s carry on and on. I've taught myself to remember that they probably have a longer history with technique, all the eureka moments, with breath control etc. Yours will come, very very slowly. Do not give up. Learning to relax in the pool is currently my focus - it helps every part of the stroke. Also, you'll hear contradictory advice from everywhere. Look around, everyone has a slightly different stroke, just find what works for you, as close to the experts as you can. Happy swimming!

much of her speed comes also from the design of her Brazilian bikini: the less cloth, the less resistance in the rear end area.
