Fran lost in the Semis. In a 15-minute game, they were given pen after pen after offside after offside, and when the ball clearly went backward in the final for Fiji, they were given the ball back to Fra. What's worse is that, in the first half of the final, the French didn't even know the rules of the game.

Even if they are oversea french, they have the french citizenship with the same rights and duties that mainland french, they vote for the France Parlement, have their representation there, vote for the french president and even for the EU elections for Guadalupe, Martinique, french Guyane, Réunion and Mayotte ! And don't act like this is irrelevant. Olympic medals matter, a lot. SA has a fantastic rugby legacy, but FR beat them fair and square here and these games, while they don't have the intensity of rugby union, were a lot of fun to watch imo.
