It was so fun getting to watch their preparation for the Olympics through videos. As an American, I still made sure to watch their competition days and was entirely rooting for them. Gold could not have gone to a more deserving pair - both so sweet, humble, hard-working, and well-rounded individuals. They had trained so much and knew each other so well that they didn't even *need* to talk to each other through the competition. I think Tom and Matty made each other better and they both were able to focus and relax and do their best that day. And it was one of the most exciting moments in Olympics viewing to get to see them win the gold. :)

Matt was calm because he knew that he would still get a silver medal if the Chinese beat them and it would be still an awesome accomplishment… that’s what I try teaching my students, do your best and work hard so in the end you would be happy no matter the results.

Tom obviously really wanted the gold cuz it’s his 4th Olympics and he’s been striving for that goal since 2008. That shot of them reacting to their win always makes me emotional, and it’s refreshing to not always have the same country on top the podium
