Renaud Lavillenie already seen this kid before olympic, Renaud was filming Duplantis when he was under 15 i think, and Renaud was amazed with his ability in pole vault. What an amazing kid Armand Duplantis!!!

I felt so sad to see Armand's Duplantis Idol Renaud Lavillenie injured that he could not compete properly. And sad that Sam Kendricks became covidpositive. I was looking forward to seeing a tough competition. And an arena filled with cheering spectators!!! Grattis Armand du är bäst! 🥇

He was too full of himself to go straight for the world record and not break the Olympic record first. On sports you never know, he might've missed his only chance of becoming the Olympic record holder. But he is in fact amazing.

@@melonusk6120 You are assuming he won't ever have any issues in his career or life. Look at Lavillenie's situation at this Olympic, he was nowhere near his best form with an injurie in his foot. No matter how you cut it it is a missed opportunity and there is a possibility it was his only one at the Olympic stage, you never know. I hope that isn't the case but life is unpredictable and sports even more so.

Mondo Duplantis clearance of 6.02 metres was massive and could easily have broken the Olympic record of 6.03 metres but attempted the much higher world record and came close.

Thiago Braz was only the third brazilian in history to win two individual olympic medals in track and field, after Adhemar Ferreira (gold in the triple jump in Helsinki 1952 and Melbourne 1956) and Joaquim Cruz (gold in the 800 m in LA 1984 and silver in Seul 1988). So this bronze was a very great result.

Actually, there were two more, Nelson Prudêncio and João do Pulo, both triple jumpers. But they never got the gold. Still, a very selective club for brazilian track and field.

So interesting to see how they play this game tactically. Arriving at the gold medal heights with only 3 or 4 jumps done must be a huge advantage compared to someone who already did 9 or 10 jumps before. If you have the confidence to pull it off.

Taking a break from Figure Skating until my Golden Boy Yuzuru Hanyu return in the competitions. First time watching this sport and I finished it in one sitting without skipping LOL. He was like a foot above the bar, talk about inconsistency...a foot=30cm. It is measured in metric so keep it in metric.

You can clearly see how between the extend/push phase and over the bar, Nilsen's momentum slows to a dead stop and he sinks like a stone while Duplantis just keeps going and even becomes faster over the bar.

oops. For the record, do not listen to the commentator. Lavillenie is absolutely not the reason Duplantis got into pole vaulting...that would be his father Greg Duplantis, who was also a champion pole vaulter, who has been training his son since he was about 6. Credit for such a champion as young Duplantis must be properly and fairly attributed.
