No matter how you cut it it is a missed opportunity and there is a possibility it was his only one at the Olympic stage, you never know. I hope that isn't the case but life is unpredictable and sports even more so.

Thiago Braz was only the third brazilian in history to win two individual olympic medals in track and field, after Adhemar Ferreira (gold in the triple jump in Helsinki 1952 and Melbourne 1956) and Joaquim Cruz (gold in the 800 m in LA 1984 and silver in Seul 1988). So this bronze was a very great result.

You can clearly see how between the extend/push phase and over the bar, Nilsen's momentum slows to a dead stop and he sinks like a stone while Duplantis just keeps going and even becomes faster over the bar.

oops. For the record, do not listen to the commentator. Lavillenie is absolutely not the reason Duplantis got into pole vaulting...that would be his father Greg Duplantis, who was also a champion pole vaulter, who has been training his son since he was about 6. Credit for such a champion as young Duplantis must be properly and fairly attributed.
