Rob I watched Robin, Peter and your EM5 Mk3 settings video and with the manual backend guide I highlighted each part with comments. Took quite a few hours but I recommend doing it to others as now I have a quick reference guide. I then add a colour for my notes and changes to those settings. I can no go and read the more detailed parts of the manual to explain in a bit more detail. Interesting to see what the little differences are between you guys and obviously non of you are saying this is best, just your individual preferences and suggestions. In short your guides are comprehensive and quite individual, Peter is about correct exposure and Robin is about getting that shot instantly without having to check the camera. Recommend to all to watch everyone of you guys settings. Very informative. Keep going ;) PS loving the camera so far. Hope to actually shoot something soon.

I just bought this camera, and am feeling quite overwhelmed with the number of settings available coming from a smartphone, and before that from a Nikon D5000. Thanks so much for taking the time to go through all of those menus, this is very helpful.

Big help for me with my new E-M5 Mark III. I’m not so familiar with Olympus and my main camera is a Panasonic G9. The menu and the handling of Olympus is for me kind of wired and unergonomic compared to the Panasonic menu. Thank your great videos I begin to understand all the important stuff. Thanks a lot again!

I haven't used an Olympus in a few years, I found this very interesting. I thought my GX80 had a lot of menu options but Olympus seems to have lots more tweaks than Panasonic, is that a fair comment? But the Custom assignment is a bit clunky compared to Panasonic, that surprised me. Also, on newer Panasonic's there is a way to build your own menu. I suppose this is the reverse of reducing what you see with Olympus. It is difficult for manufacturers to fit all these features in. Thanks Rob, for this and your other tutorials, it is great to see someone on KZbin who is not afraid to make a longer video to be informative. I also appreciate that you do not shout and you have a steady pace.

Thanks, Michael. Fair statement. I hope Olympus updates the firmware to add custom menus and assigned custom settings to buttons.

I finally understood how spot metering and focus point work, thanks! The only thing I believe you forgot to mentions is that if you want to match spot metering and focus point, you need to enable this option via custom menu E3 -> Spot Metering (should be already enabled by default, but if not you should check this).

The Custom Menu option is clunky having to go into menu for 2 & 3. Is it possible to add C2 or C3 to the SCP? If not, that should be an easy software update by Olympus? Thanks for all your great videos Rob.

Great video. Is it possible to get the soft effect on video recording? I find the video to be a little harsh, is there a way to soften that up? Thanks
@RobTrek7 ай бұрын
Your best bet is to shoot in Natural Color profile and then turn the sharpening down to -2 and contrast to -2. If you're shooting in a FLAT profile, there is no way to adjust sharpness or color. The other option is to try using a mist filter or black mist filter on your lens.
@sealand0004 жыл бұрын
Thanks for doing this. What's the difference between the two Large-Fine settings? It would have been nice if custom settings were assigned a single button or an item in the SCP, and then you can select the custom setting using the scroll wheel. In addition, allow you to name your own custom setting.
@RobTrek4 жыл бұрын
Hopefully a firmware update will let us do a little more with the custom settings. No difference between LF settings, can you be more specific? Thanks. -Rob
@sealand0004 жыл бұрын
@@RobTrek At 8:43, there are two LF options. Perhaps a bug?
@RobTrek4 жыл бұрын
@@sealand000 The camera has four positions in memory. You can set each one to a any combination of image size (L, M, S) and image quality (SF, F, N). I just happen to duplicate 2 of the memory slots to LF.

I don't suppose you could explain [or point me to info on...), the Custom Pucture Mode? The manual says it is for customised versions of other picture modes, but doesn't explain how it is used. Does it just use whatever Picture Mode is currently associated with the C custom mode settings?
@TristanColgate Жыл бұрын
Right, found it. Setting are under Pictures Modes on Shooting Menu 1 - Custom

Yes, the saturation, gradation, etc... Keep in mind these get baked in jpgs. Raw images can be reversed.

Rob, can you go over the differences between using the custom modes vs using a "myset" For example, on my EM10II i have a black and white profile set up as a myset which i can switch to instantly using function button which i assigned it to, so no need to go into the menu to go between 2 profiles.
@RobTrek4 жыл бұрын
There is no difference in function between the custom and myset. The terms are interchangeable. The difference between the em10ii and em5iii is that the em10ii can assign mysets to function buttons or different slots on the mode dial. The em5iii only has on slot on the mode dial for a custom setting. The rest have to be accessed through the menu.
@nw16504 жыл бұрын
@@RobTrek Thanks for the reply, and i find that very interesting that one of the features which i use constantly on my EM10ii (instant switching between profiles using fn button with a myset) isn't available on the higher end EM5iii, seems counter intuitive.

Good info!...just upgraded to the EM5 III from a EM10 II. Why do you think the anti-shock shutter selection is "hidden" on this EM5? Is there some kind of image quality issue or a mechanical reliability issue or other obvious reasons? Just seems kind of odd to me since many of the Olympus experts recommend using the anti-shock setting.
@RobTrek4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I really don't know why the turn it off in the menu. There are many odd things about the em5iii like this. No deal breakers, but still odd.

I have the EM 10 Mk II, em5 Mk III And my sister just got the EM 10 Mk III. On this the default is Live View or blank screen. You have to press ok to get SCP. on the others, I can toggle between live view and SCP by pressing the monitor button on the right edge of the EVF. Is there a way to get this to work on the EM10 MK III? Thanks so much. Love your videos!

I don't have the E-M10III, but try turning off the "Quick Sleep" mode. Also check the EVF menu settings for "Auto Switch" ON/OFF. Make sure the monitor is flush with the camera. Let me know. Thanks. -Rob

Hi Rob, on the m5ii, I notice that one cannot deselect Pop Art in Picture Mode Settings, because it's not listed there. Therefore it always shows up in shooting menu 1's picture mode selection list. Do you have any insights into why this is the case? Thanks for the video. I made some tweaks to my settings based on your input. Cheers
