Live composite mode, IBIS, Olympus colours, hi res modes and great value f1.8 primes keep me with Olympus. Handheld shots up to 3 seconds are achieveable. As you said, not for everyone but if you get it then you really get it 😊

I own this camera and have owned a couple em5 series cameras from Olympus before. If you value the strengths of this camera, then it’s amazing and nothing else competes. For a lightweight, general purpose, travel, all weather camera it is amazing. This camera can do many things well. I have Sony full frame as well but use this for its portability and amazing weather sealing and love that combo of systems. When it’s crummy weather or I am traveling or just want a tiny camera to walk around with, nothing beats this camera. When I want the best image quality and don’t care about system size, I love my Sony a7riii. No one camera is perfect for everything and every camera and lens is a compromise. Hence the fun of collecting photo gear😊

For me the choice was between the and the E10 Mark IV. Adorama had this for $899 body only w/ a $100 coupon, $200 if you went with black. So $699. Add the 12-45 F4 for $499 and it was a no-brainer.

OM/Olympus gear is priced to appeal to existing fans, not the curious. There is a lot of competition in full frame, aps-c and m43 at that price point.

This is too true. The camera should cost less, especially for its mechanical features. That said, what begins to justify the cost, in my somewhat financially irresponsible mind, is the sheer volume of things a person can do in-camera as opposed to having to do it via an editor or multiple editors once I get home to my computer. Things like live compositing, star AF, live ND, timelapse mode, focus stacking, etc... Being done in camera really appeal to me. I certainly don't need any of that, but I love the thought of it. I'd love to try it out. But like you said, these camera systems are not priced for the curious, unfortunately.

The only review I have ever seen where someone liked the old Olympus menu system! Well done review (!), some truly great photos and video from OM5 looked quite good. Did you need to do a lot of post work?

I have used old Sony system before, this is beautiful and easy to use in comparison. I filmed everything in log and colour corrected in Premiere

Maybe someone can answer this for me. I've only watched a couple of his videos so far, and don't know whether or not he tends just to be very positive in general, just about all the time - which is fine, I like positive people and positive energy (I really do), and do not like general complainers. But sometimes, when deciding on a camera for example, I want a balance, and I do not want overly positive in the sense that someone just selectively covers the positives and puffs them up or overinflates them. Is his very positive review of this Olympus camera very positive because he is just a very positive guy, or is he unusually excited and positive about it because it is unusually good?

He says that if negatives about the camera or a lens are stopping you from being creative and making it work then you are doing something wrong. He has build a successful photography business using cheap lenses and making them work. No point complaining about everything and keep wishing that you should bought something else instead. Really enjoyed that review, especially to learn that it has shutter angle for video, more so with the fact that the OM-1 flagship hasn't got that yet! As soon as you mentioned it I dived into the menus on my OM-1 but all I can find is the 'Flicker Free' setting, is that how you set it on the OM-5? Or maybe I have completely got it wrong on the OM-1 and it's been there the whole time! Hope you can send back a reply :)

@@PavSZ Are you sure it's an actual shutter angle setting? I have the EM5.III and its 'Flicker Scan' mode lets the shutter speed be adjusted in very fine steps, so more of a chance you can pick a shutter speed that avoids flicker. I'd never heard of actual shutter angle on the EM5.III or OM-5 before. So many features on these modern cameras though, it's hard to work out what's what. I recently got a used G9 to give myself a second angle for videos, and despite being an incredibly capable high end camera it doesn't even have the fine shutter speed control option the EM5 does. It seems Pana have applied some artificial limitation here and only enabled that on the GH series which is disappointing...knowing that I can get flicker free videos in any situation is reassuring on my EM5. I thought I'd check out your OM-5 review to see what improvements there are over my EM5. To be fair there are a number of little things that are actually quite useful...the log profile, apparently now having auto ISO in video M mode, the live ND etc. Also unlimited record time, that's quite a big one if like me you record musical performances (my band's rehearsal, gigs and so on). Annoying that both my EM5 and G9 have the 30 minute limit. I suppose it's the EU to blame for that one, at least now they have stopped the extra tax for longer record times. Considering the price of the OM-5 though, and how cheaply I got my EM5.III for, it's not worth upgrading. OM-System would have had to add a bit more...like at least some level of the AI subject detection autofocus from the OM-1, and perhaps some physical upgrades like an exposure comp dial, focus joystick etc. At least OM-System show that they want to continue making premium, compact and lovely looking cameras. Hopefully there will also be more matching lenses, i.e. mid-range priced f/1.4 primes like the 20mm. I do love your reviews btw, they seem very down to earth and you always have a well thought out conclusion at the end. Whilst I don't currently have the budget for a Sony full-frame camera and a load of lovely Sigma lenses (always been my favourite lens brand, just a shame they don't make much for M43...), I can still get some enjoyment watching these lovely bits of gear tested by a photographer who can really show what they are capable of. You have a very relaxing way of talking about everything too, your channel is almost like photography ASMR and even the way you do your colour grading and shallow depth of field for pieces to camera adds to this lovely atmosphere.

Great REVIEW man! ... Are you ANNOYED that they overlays left and right of the screen POP UP... bloking the view of my subject whenever I change shutter speed or aperture? ITS EXTREMELY annoying to me .... and will gladly pay £200 to have the darn thing removed. in the EVF the modes 2 and 3 gets rid of the overlay but on screen its SO DISTRACTING
