This kind of product really needs comparison dyno runs against stock piece. Runner length difference is huge, so would be nice to see what the torque curve looks with billet manifold.

Congrats, that's beautiful, and I have to have one. But you did forget a couple of important figures in the video: 1) weight compared to factory intake, 2) dyno gains. Looking forward to more details on this beast.

Would love to see a dyno comparison vs stock manifold (both exhaust and intake manifolds) :D On a side note, would love to see you guys put an OM606 on propane :D

I made a similar intake for a Nissan TD42 (hideous sheetmetal box on machined factory manifold - he's right they always look crap). It didn't improve performance on the dyno, but Air:Fuel ratio went from 19.5:1 to 22:1 at 25psi (about 80% load, we couldn't reach full load as it was a fairly small inertial dyno). So we could have put more fuel in to make more power. The stock nissab manifold is garbage though, much worse than this one. the cross section of the log is the same as one port (6 ports).

I'm supprised you haven't whittled out a billet engine cover replacement, with DPUK unplace of the merc logo, and yeah you should get an old around 49-50 Mercury, swap in a merc in a Mercury, it could be the Murcury-Benz! I have a ton of ideas if I only had cad and a CNC whitteler! Carving aluminum by hand isn't easy,. Any plans of casting a manifold?? Inlet and outlet? There is a few small shops here in the us, that cast aluminum and iron, and I know they are quality Craftsmen in the UK that can do the job! A large block of aluminum can't be cheap, then the hours of CNC, casting will be much more affordable! Heck I just bought a 12" bar of aluminum for a motor bike exhaust hanger, it was $10, they could be cast from old Pistons or something, for low expansion! Haha,

That inlet is a thing of beauty. I am just now getting into these MB turbo diesels and am falling in love. Maybe I'll have to build one in the future. Yours looks gorgeous :)

Not worth the effort on a diesel. The compressor efficiency of a roots blower is garbage compared to modern turbos, they make hot, low density air unless you pour methanol through them to cool the charge down again.

Personally I would just hightemp clear coat the bare metal surfaces. They look phenomenal the way they are an the clear will prevent oxidation or contaminant penetration. the pump might look good gun metal or gloss black. T Keep up the great work man.

Please forgive me if I may sound stuckup but I believe that aircraft aluminum is 7000 series, not 6k. 6k is very common. But do love your progress with these engines..

Only problem I have with these videos is the om606 is not available in Australia. We keep seeing Cummins and Nissan builds but these are amazing lightweight, efficiency performance motors. Wow.

Very nice piece , a lot of thourght has gone into that for sure. Im surprised the inlets are not a bit bigger as generally they get the walls coked with shoot and what about having say a 300 hp engine and doing a back to back dyno test with original v billet inlet and see what and were the gains are being made. Just been working on a 50 ltr v16 today bloody dirty things lol ;-)

One disadvantage is the short runner manifold will kill bottom end torque .

Are you referring to pulse tuning? Given that this design almost eliminates the presence of an inlet runner, you will lose the pulse effect at whatever speed the OE part may have been tuned to, but I expect you would gain torque at practically every other point on the curve, or at least every higher place on the curve. If that is correct, then you will get higher torque and power peaks and more area under the curves, thanks to better air flow at all other speeds, and particularly under boost.

Not unlike the billet exhaust manifold. It's a beautiful part, but it's hard not to feel sticker shock. I don't know that the intake manifold will be any cheaper, although there appears to be no welding input, so that may be worth some savings. It would be nice to have dyno numbers on the intake manifold so a person can quantify the gains and make a value judgment thereon.

I believe I'm at the top of the list with a 6 week lead time, I'd say how much I was quoted but I'll let them announce it first.... and the exchange rate will get me. It's a 110 engine swap we're doing and this intake will make the engine compartment much easier to manage, especially out on the trail.

I would say that yellow and gold do not look good together. Until I saw a motorcycle in black, yellow and gold. I told the guy that if I didn't see it for myself, I would think it would look crap. It was indeed beautiful. But black anodizing is more my taste.

Milspec type 3 hard coat anodize, only available in black, job done, decision made! It will resist methanol the best.

so will the shorter runners hurt the low end torq ? i want to put one in my jeep grand cherokee 1996 . it looks like it is even lighter buy 20 lb than the i6 4.0 L

Flat Gun metal grey would stance out. Black is something everyone chose. Do a new valve cover in aluminium and same gun metal grey color

I thought you said Mercedes knew what they were doing and you've knocked up something that looks great but does it add any improvement. The only way to know is first with a flow bench and then the torque curve as measured by a dyno before and after.

What are the advantages of short trumpets/no runners with the bigger plenum, vs a smaller plenum with longer runners like the original?

Higher RPM power I would guess. Likely would hurt the lower end torque but should be capable of making more top end.

I'd powder coat it clear! Or the gun metal would look cool too! I have a 50 Chevy, a 53 Belair, and a 57 Chevy truck, along with a few other projects, I'd get the Chevy grill for that truck it looks much better!

That thing looks incredibly heavy. Is the advantages from the shapes and smoothness worth the extra mass? I know it's aluminium, so it's not that much, but if its massive i suspect it can get a bit heavy.
