feel quite proud to know Molly Wright (the young girl) and her mum - they, like me, are from Queensland, Australia. She is freakishly talented and I'm so so excited to see this film. I could just feel something gorgeous was about to come from John Magaro, he bears his heart every time I see him on screen.

John Magaro was incredible. He’ll probably end up getting the Keith Kupferer in Ghostlight treatment when it comes to awards, but he will deserve far more (like Kupferer).

It really is a perfect mix of Aftersun and The Florida Project, but it’s also entirely its own thing. It’s a fantastic film. I don’t think it’s too early to say that I think this will end up on a lot of “best of 2025” lists (including mine).

Last year was full of surprises, gentlemen. This year has a tough act to follow.

I just watched a virtual screening for this last night. It's a very well done movie, the performances are all excellent. Especially for this to be the director's debut, that's wild. And then the ending, I mean... WOOF! I won't spoil it, but when I realized what was going on right at the end, my jaw dropped. It kinda feels like this would make a good double feature with AfterSun too.

In all honesty, after all these years, no two words temper my expectations as much as "Sundance tearjerker."

I was blown away with emotion from this movie. Molly Belle Wright and John Magaro were both spectacular. I agree that Webley’s direction really elevated the movie.

Definitely liked it but wasn't as bowled over as you guys. I think it really hinges on the emotional punch of a few scenes, which were certainly tragic, but if you don't feel that tragedy as deeply for whatever reasons, it doesn't compensate enough for the lean story in my opinion. I remember what you guys had said about Hard Truths: that it was an exercise in how little you can give the audience and expect them to still understand. I felt that here....the the cards were a little too close to the chest. The actors though - woof. Holy hell what terrific performances from all 3.

I felt like the director's withholding of plot information from the audience was manipulative. And I'm kind of annoyed that the filmmakers are guarding the end spoiler like it's the 6th Sense or Shawshank Redemption. They would have been better off branding the film as a novel of sorts highlighting the Safe Haven Act. And then in the plot they could drop some crumbs about the dad reconsidering etc. That way the suspense throughout the journey would be a 'will he' or 'won't he' and you'd build up to the final scene. The way the filmmakers chose to do it was a sort of emotional drive-by that just left you gutted with no build up to the end devastation. I actually think the movie would benefit from the spoiler getting out befire it hits the theaters (which I suspect it will). It's a better watch when you understand what the heck is actually going on, not some random cross country journey heading to a mysterious destination

No one can take your reviews seriously anymore after your positive review of Emelia Perez. You should preface any of your new reviews with the fact that you've been doing some soul-searching and apologize for that scandalous positive review of that atrocity of a movie.

Brother Bro’s Emilia Perez review was back when he was covering Cannes 2024 where it premiered. That was way WAY before all the criticisms levelled against the film and the people involved. Not as many people had seen it yet, only those at Cannes. That’s when all the buzz started before it eventually went downhill.

@stevenvo1999 yes, his review was really early, meaning he shouldn't have been influenced by politics or by Oscar buzz

@@pezant10he was literally at Cannes. He wasn’t influenced at all by anything. He saw it and gave honest thoughts. If he was influenced by the crowd he wouldn’t have been so high on it. He even said he didn’t see it as BP material when he saw it
