I am a Portuguese happily living in Oman. Definitely the best country in the Arabian Gulf to live in. An example that tradition and culture can be side by side with development and modernity. Very kind and educated people as well!

Except if you should get entangled in that brutal savage backward so called islamic justice system that will leave you like the academic Mr Hodges, pleading guilty to crimes you did not commit because of the inhumane treatment, recently given a life sentence for asking questions. And almost 400 illegal migrants arrested and deported? Shocking, the double standards, Oman is where the devil resides. It looks pretty now but it never did before when slavery was its main source of income.

I lived in Oman in 1981-1984, What struck me then, was the freedom of women there, in that time. I appreciate that Sultan Qaboos developed the country so well, without it getting too Western. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with very friendly people. I would love to come back, one day!

I have been to the UAE 11 times and Oman once, the UAE has wasted money despite seeming amazing the buildings towering the skies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai but it has destroyed its culture but Oman on the other hand has preserved its history and it is so great, don’t go to the UAE go to Oman it’s different exciting and an adventure. And also don’t be put off by the conflict in Yemen it has no relevance to Oman’s safety.

I was fortunate enough to have lived in Sur and Nizwa also, and, should you ever go there, you must go to the Sur suq... Enchanting.... I don't know how much it has changed since 2007 but knowing Oman, hopefully Sur is still charming

I have a question about Oman's political system: Does the Sultan (head of state) always jointly serve as Prime Minister (head of government), or does he have an option to choose someone else to serve as Prime Minister if he chooses to?
@arharsh466 жыл бұрын
in oman there a system of shura which is made of leader chosen by citizens through election. that shura council is presides by a prime minister, deputy prime minister and other ministers as well.

Oman was never a colony of Great Britain, however, there was a series of treaties between the two countries that gave Great Britain a lot of influence in Oman to the point it could exclude other nations from trading there. In 1970 the present Sultan Qaboos overthrew his father in a nearly bloodless coup and he transformed the country into what it is today.

+yoshee87 What? I did not get you. as per statistics 80% of Omani own a house, at least 1 car and traveled outside of Oman. Oman is not a poor country and Omani people are not poor. Hotel rates in Oman starts from 20$ to 1000$ i'm sure they can afford it and some tips on top. My first comment was for this video to show some corners that are modern like in Muscat which more then 70% of population live and work and have entertainment. if having a house a car, latest communication and entertainment avenues and marred with kids and traveling poor to you... you must be a billionaire :) welcome to Oman. If you did not visit Oman, Please do and judge yourself.
