Evoto has saved me for the classic e-shop white background photos. It cleans up the floor from footsteps, it deletes stray hair, it removes wrinkles from the clothes. So if i have a batch of 250 photos to deliver, instead of spending 3 days to edit them, i spend 3 hours just for possible extra touchups, liquify, etc. My only complaint is that it is too much face centric and there are not a lot of options for body skin (cellulite, etc).

I don't do much portrait photography, I was watching as an interested bystander, as it were. I can't say I was impressed by either. And I chuckled to hear that a "lifetime" licence has been whittled down to two new versions and a few updates!
@PeteCocoPhoto2 ай бұрын
I'm with you on the editing philosophy. Less is more. I picked up Evoto a while back, and although I didn't initially think I would like it, it's become a standard part of my workflow. If you are gentle with those sliders, it does a really good job for basic retouching. I don't use any of that skin-blitzing stuff tho LOL. Imagine what it will do a year from now 🤯

I've had Evoto for about 3 months and I now have the lifetime Aperty license. I'm hoping for some great future developments and update in Aperty because so far it seems very basic and underwhelming and I've already reverted to using Evoto for almost all my editing, Evoto wins hands down in almost all aspects. Key things missing from Aperty are the ability to touch up hair and the ability to improve the backgrounds - these some be fundamental parts of portrait editing (Evoto does these extremely well!). I was also hoping the lifetime version of Aperty would negate the need for me to buy further Evoto credits but I'm already looking at my next credit top up!

I bought the early access lifetime license for Aperty. It's a bet on the future development of this software as far as I can see by now. Not very happy with the pre-release functionality so far. Very slow and some sliders don't seem to work at all...
@malmedia2 ай бұрын
Yep, I got the early lifetime thing with Aperty and did a side by side and Evoto wins in almost every category. Aperty is onl a little bit better than Skylum's Luminar Neo. My hope is that Aperty gets much better overtime, so I can cancel Adobe completely. The Erase feature in Aperty is nearly unsuable after making one change.
@ogonzilla2 ай бұрын
It seemed very "Lite" to me. Not many features. We shall see.

I think Evoto is better all around. It does body skin and better results in general. Only issue is that it does not have a plug-in and I have to export from Capture one to Evoto as a Tiff, then export to PS from C1 to do finishing touches. Also C1 won't crop edited tiffs from evoto and I don't know why. But Aperty is slow, messes with my color, and does not do full body smoothing.
@yanis28002 ай бұрын
1:18 As far as I know Aperty doesn't require internet connection to work and all the "processing" stuff is just AI models initializing locally. Evoto needs an internet connection though as it counts credits and can't allow users to work offline(

I recently watched a video about the reconstruction of the Notre Dame cathedral to restore it after the tragic fire. I was interested in how they did it. The construction techniques ranged from use of modern tools and materials to the use of original tools, materials, and techniques. The result is amazing. The comments here made me think of that. A lot of them say, "Bah, humbug! Don't use that AI crap!" I guess real men use Lightroom like God intended. I believe in "the right tool for the job". What's wrong with using modern tools if they give you results you like?

The "per photo " business model is a disaster. when shooting a wedding do you figure 100? 1000? for your fixed expenses. I do think more would dabble into the software but a stand alone software licence would be optimal. Subscriptions are become the norm but still a pain in the yabb dabba doo

With Aperty, Is there a way to replace a background and have this automatically applied to a batch of images? This was a big selling point for me, but now that I have Aperty in hand, I can't see a way to do it.

@@isDatBoi It's reasonably quick on my M1 Max Mac Studio - maybe 1-3 seconds to apply adjustments. It just doesn't simplify my high-volume batch processing of portraits much. Since I shoot on location (conference rooms, event spaces) a lot, my backgrounds often need a lot of retouching.

Thank you for clarifying Aperty's "lifetime" license. That was the one thing that kept me from buying it - it's not truly "lifetime". Too bait & switchy for me. Perhaps if they were more transparent about it, but to be fair maybe I missed some fine-fine print. Looks like a big time-saver for higher-volume work, but I suspect Adobe will offer something similar in the way of faster portrait retouching tools.

Skylum's Aperty page says in the FAQ section that it can "automatically remove backgrounds." This is not true. All it can do with backgrounds is automatically mask them and then let you apply adjustments, such as brightness, contrast and color, and a bit of blurring. Also, it cannot do this as a batch process. Very disappointed, I requested a refund.

These two applications are not even remotely close. It is like a race between a Ferrari (Evoto) and a tricycle (Aperty). This is probably the last Skylum application I will ever be buying. This is their standard MO - promise a lot, deliver very little. I get way better results with Lightroom soon softening, she adjustments, etc then with Aperty. Evoto is amazing, I just don't like the credit system.

Hello, I stumbled across this video by chance when I wanted to get some information about Aperty and thought that this comparison with Evoto could have been a bit more comprehensive. Regarding your brief comment about the problems with opening raw files, I would like to point out that this is not really well solved in Evoto either, because the Evoto plugin does not work with DNG or RAW, but generates a Tiff, JPG or PNG from it. I'm also always annoyed that Pro Photo RGB is not supported. So if you want to look into this topic again, feel free to make a longer video out of it Best regards from Germany Klaus
