I keep coming back to this video - still the best review of the UD anywhere. For anyone with smaller wrist that's considering the UD, I would encourage you to try it on. I was able to do so, and it fit great on my 6.75" wrist. Don't get me wrong, it's a big watch, but Omega did a great job with the design to make it wearable.

Thanks Alex for this profund video (as usually). Myself been to the OMEGA boutique last friday first of all to get inform about the OMEGA snoopy. As expected this watch is without any exetions to their best clients (as every Rolex AD with their crowns). So I asked for the new ultra deep. The AD announced the delivery from OMEGA HQ to the OMEGA Boutiques within the next weeks or months. 6 months later the watches are expected to be launched to all AD around the world. I'll hope to get my hands on these beauties at my usual Bucherer Boutique by the end of the year. In my option the ultra deep is a KILLER!😊

Great overview! My favourite is the Ti version too. A proper tool! But, NATO straps? No thanks! Great over a drysuit, but it makes the watch too thick on the wrist and more importantly, less stable as the caseback is not in contact. Surely a new strap is the answer: 2 piece fabric with ends that fold over the lugs and secure back beneath the strap with velcro. The strap can then fasten with a buckle, deployant or velcro. There you go Alexander - you can feed that idea back to Omega! Much more wearable and very tough.

On the titanium version, is the pin buckle attached to nato strap using a spring-bar or is it sewn-in to the strap? White dial on the rubber strap is the best balance, to my eye (given the size of the watch). Love the shade of blue too. I love the idea of a massively over-engineered dive watch, but at around double the price of a Seamaster 300 it’s seems very expensive.

Great presentation for this new tank. That pressure it can takes is really astonshing. About the review, I do not have the same opinion regarding the complications. NO, i do want a date function when i spent that amount of money. The jumping hour hand is nice but I never really use this functionality. Having the higher waterproof number just reminds you, that your brain will explode much faster at that pressure 🙂.

Nice colours, no doubt. But why does Omega make the bezel wider and leave the dial size tiny in proportion? Isn't it simply using the Planet Ocean dial and fit a wider bezel on a thicker case? Don't you think it looks unbalanced with a tiny dial and extra wide bezel? Look at the Planet Ocean and SMP 300. Their dial to bezel ratio are well proportioned. 10:37

Thanks for sharing! To be able to guarantee 6000 m (testing is done at +25%) you need a thick case believe me...
@jamess8175
@jamess8175 Жыл бұрын
@WatchAdvisor Yes, I am aware a thick case is required. That's fine. But why fit an oversized and unproportionate bezel and retaining a tiny dial? The bezel would seem better proportioned being slimmer and not extra wide. Don't think the ridiculous width of the bezel helps in 6000m water resistance. It's the thick inner case which helps certainly.

The watches that made it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench from both Omega & Rolex are more prototypes that have relatively larger and almost unwearable proportions. He has shown both watches in this video. The commercial one that people can buy (with the seahorse case-back). He also showed the watch that was strapped on the sub that made it to the bottom of the trench (08:38), currently holding the world record, which has a different case-back showing some circular rings and that 5 deeps “badge” at the center.

I indeed watches the video back in March, really liked it… it is a pity you don’t have the orange one in this review… I am seriously considering that one to purchase… sun, shaddows and water are really a cool idea to show these watches… Fair point all cars look pretty much the same nowadays, so a bit of similarity is always unavoidable in the modern era we are living in… Only downside is that I feel these babies are too thick for my small wrist, they look massive in the video… Regarding Rolex, I have the gut feeling they are slowly declining as the flippers disappear due to the collapse of grey market prices recently, altough I am not a Rolex Fanboy rather an Omega one, I am eagerly watching to which direction the Rolex decline is going, if I am lucky enough I can pick a sub and daytona up at retail price sooner or later… Manta lugs learned something new again… Titanium Grade 5 - I already lost track of these grades if you know the exact differences between various grades an info video about them would be much appreciated… Nice and crispy bezel sound… Ti looks funny after being used to the Seamaster range with ZrO2 writings on the dial… It is quite strange it does not have crown guards like the SMP… I wonder how they solved the Helium escape in this watch without an actual valve… (or maybe I am just not seeing it)… I love these watches, but as said earlier I am missing the orange one… if I remember well that one has lume on the bezel just like the Titanium Bond version… 700 tons my Godness… as always thank you for the great video!
@WatchAdvisor

You still can discover some shots of the orange one in the video, including a lume-shot… you apparently missed it… Titanium Grade 5 is much more scratch resistant than Grade 2 … and there is no HE valve… the modern high-tech architecture of the case makes it obsolete… Is it really to big? Go and try it on your wrist… ONLY then you will know… keep us posted….

For the recreational scuba diver, most common is a dive computer and a $40 casio 200m backup (what I've seen on most divemasters). For rescue diving or maybe setting free-diving records, a reliable 300m will do. In any submersible, the pressure will be constant, so the dive watch isn't needed- not even if you're James Cameron at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The only place a watch of this rating could remotely be useful, is for commercial saturation diving over extended work days, you know- up to 1500 feet or more. But then, they're going to be using MUCH MUCH MUCH more sophisticated equipment to track their times, and depths, and breathing mixtures, and blood gasses and such. So, YES, it's pretty much all marketing hype for the gullible dive watch buyer with more money than sense, and that is trying WAY too hard to impress other people. But if you DO happen to be a commercial saturation diver reading this, by all means, please chime in! 🙂 ... oh, and yes, I did have a fairly nice vintage Seamaster Professional 300m, but sold it recently only because it looked too tiny on me (41mm). A 200m is fine for water resistance for most folks; a 300m if you happen to be a diver.

As I always say when the Rolex brigade jump on, “oh its a copy of the sub/DS/SD well, the Blancpain fifty fathoms came out before them with a steel case and bezel. The thing with the very nature of old fashioned dive watches ( I say old fashioned as for a professional diver these are decoration, they rely on their dive computer, these are just a nod to tradition now rather than a practical dive tool!) is that they are practical first so a rotating timing bezel be it as in this case on the outside or my super compressor vintage diver with the inner rotating time tracker are essential as is substantial cases. And let’s not forget, you can pretty much walk into an Omega dealer today and buy if not immediately then wait on.y a few weeks and pay retail. It’s pretty much nonsense to try that in a Rolex dealer now. Basically, for Mr average it’s all but impossible to buy a new Rolex watch from a dealer. You might be lucky and be added to a five or ten year wait list but the chances are more that they won’t do that even. No, you have to something absolutely stupid and pay over retail and frankly, as good as a Rolex is it is not worth over retail. So, practically for us ordinary folk it’s now down to other brands. Funny thing is Alexander, I feel that with the market as it is people are finding out that there are actually other brands that Rolex who offer watches of the same or even better quality and at lower prices as in these Omegas! These are fantastic, my only quibble is that I wish the extra special, one came with normal lugs, I loathe fabric straps!

I find it interesting however that it does not have a helium escape valve - which is kind of like its own Omega signature. I remember reading about the swatch prototype going down to the bottom of the Mariana trench and being stuck there for like three days which is pretty insane just as a human technological feat the fact that they were able to bring it up from the bottom of the trench and still have the watch work afterwards like just absolutely crazy

This is so laughable that Rolex fanboys would ever accuse Omega of copying them when Omega has been around longer and is a better-quality brand that can do things far beyond Rolex. Rolex has never even made a tourbillon watch like Omega has, because they clearly can't! Rolex watches are very simple and not complex movements for the price they are charging. When you have people saying that virtually any watch Rolex makes, Omega has one as good or better for half the price, that is a problem for Rolex. The only category Rolex wins in, is over pricing. They manipulate the watch market and don't even sell retail watches. They make it impossible to get as if you are lucky to have one. Complete garbage that they make you buy other watches and crap you don't want just for a chance to purchase their trash. Oh and let's not forget that Omega released the Chrono-chime which absolutely leaves Rolex in the dust. Rolex might as well be a Casio brand compared to Omega.
@WatchAdvisor

I need to "protect" Rolex a bit! It is NOT Rolex, the independent acting Rolex ADs are the ones to literally destroy the good image of Rolex with their silly games they play with potential clients... Now that I've been fortunate enough to afford finer man-made materials~ I still dive recreationally but with ridiculously over built, luxurious watches... for fun. It's a nice treat to do so. I agree, that most wrist wranglers are probably desk jockeys who don't know how to purge a regulator. Omegasteel is just so exotic, i am curious to get someday such a 6000 meter Seamaster. On rubber of course. The White dial and the one in orange are my cup of tea. It is a downside that there is no looking glass to see the movement shine, but i understand that the thickness would be a tower with it. The size is not small, albeit it give Omega the room to place a visible dial. Good you do not complain about the undirectionial bazel, because Omega did it for a good reason, safety.

You are partially right Alexander. If we go further on that idea then all the Chinese copycats are justified. It is not good that Omega is following the success trend pioneered by Rolex. Omega is characterized by innovative new products with exquisite watches. And now what do they do? Rolex came out with the color series 41mms Omega after them, Deepsea come out Omega after them, and Daytona ceramic ---Speedmaster contoured after it. So that is the problem, not the fact that they cannot follow. Why follow, innovated something extraordinary. Already on the quality level, they are several times over Rolex.
