I absolutely love the 11 at 11 o clock. I've seen dozens of instagram posts where people don't notice it. I'm glad you pointed it out and thanks for the excellent review. Nicely done Omega.

Great video. I would add I’ve heard that Armstrong left his Speedmaster in the lunar module because a clock in the module wasn’t operating properly; not that his Speedmaster’s crystal had failed. He left his running to keep track of elapsed time. I just wanted to add that point of clarification.

The display cracked on the lunar module time keeper hence Neil Armstrong and Buzz synchronised their speed masters and Neil hung his over a control module to use as a time keeper on returning to the Eagle lunar module . The hesalite glass on his speedmaster did not crack

@@CasualWatchReviews the crystal popping off a Speedmaster refers to Dave Scott on Apollo 15 who wore his privately owned prototype Bulova onto the moon''s surface. Hence why his watch sold in 2015 for $1.6M as there are few privately owned true moon watches. The rest are in the Smithsonian (being government property) except for Buzz Aldrin's Speedie that was actually worn on the moon (and hence the 1st) that went missing in the post on its way there.

It's always nice to read a thorough review with lots of details. I bought one of these watches from an AD at the end of 2019 and it's a lovely watch. As you say the presentation box is incredible. The sub-dial at 9 o'clock can be hard to read as the sweeping small seconds hand is also gold so gets lost in the gold image on Buzz' bum!! LOL The presentation pack is amazing and the AD gave me an anniversary pin (of an astronaut) that was given to some people as part of the launch of the model. I agree about the case-back. It's made of sapphire crystal so could have been made translucent to allow seeing the beautiful co-axial movement - which has very good time-keeping. You have to buy the new sapphire sandwich version launched this year to see the same movement in all its glory. It provides an excuse to buy a standard black dial version!!

Hi Sam. Off topic but I'm not on social media. Just listened to your podcast on vintage Seiko chronographs. Thanks for covering this lesser known topic. One point of clarification. Seiko does have a modern mechanical chrono movement, the 8R48, which they periodically use. See the recent SRQ029 & 031 releases. This movement is very different than the vintage Suwa and Daini movements however. I do agree that the resurrection of the architecture of the old movements is unlikely. Cheers.

Hey Tom, sorry for the late reply! i learned about that movement after that podcast. I also hear its very hard to get a hold of for the microbrand community
@truebluemiata
@truebluemiata 4 жыл бұрын
@@CasualWatchReviews No worries! The aftermarket version of the 8R48 is the NE88. I think you are correct, there hasn't been much uptake on this one. It appears to me that watchmakers prefer a similarly priced fully assembled 775O that I understand ETA is still happy to sell, or else spend less on a mecha-quartz or SW500 ebauche. That Seiko would be withholding NE88 supply is somewhat surprising but who can tell what Seiko's marketing model(s) is these days? They certainly don't let on what they're up to!

Although Dave Scott and Neil Armstrong flew together in the space program, I recall that Dave Scott's Chrystal had popped off his Speedmaster. That happened 1971 when he used the Bulova (which has been in my family for 75 years) as a backup timepiece.
@CasualWatchReviews
@CasualWatchReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, I think these stories often get confused to being Armstrong's speedmaster that failed, quite the opposite. Do you mean you actually own the Bulova that went to space?
@fred1713
@fred1713 3 жыл бұрын
@@CasualWatchReviews Sorry to disappoint. No, I do not own that watch. I believe it went for over $1.5 mm. at auction. However I am a Bulova fan. The company used to be right here in Rhode Island, where I've always lived, when the space program started. My only moon watch is (50th anniversary) the one you detail on you tube.

Omega build quality watches...when you compare to what other brands are charging and the fact that this model sold out in one week, obviously they've got it priced right, at least from a business perspective.
