The Omega Speedmaster Racing Dial Chronograph features a 44.25mm stainless steel case surrounding a black dial on a stainless steel bracelet with folding buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, small-seconds, date, chronograph and tachymeter. It also measures 15.3mm in thickness and 49.8mm from lug-to-lug.

I'm not a pilot, astronaut, or aerospace enthusiast, so this is the kind of Speedmaster that speaks to me. The motorsports theme appeals to my enthusiasm for endurance sports car racing, and the orange accents appeal to my love for orange watches. I'm more interested in the motorsports heritage than the Apollo missions. I'm after a Speedy Racing or a '57. The Racing looks amazing, the 44mm size and 49.8mm lug to log is perfect. My only problem is the height at 15.2mm. In an extreme diver I expect it and go with it, in a chrono it puts me off a little bit, but maybe it's just a question of adjusting. I'd have to try this one at the boutique first.

What are your thoughts on the longevity of the looks of the orange accents on this watch? I'm debating between this variant or the black dial with the white accents. I plan on keeping this watch a long time and don't want to get tired if the orange colors. The black dial with white accents seem like they will age better, but the orange accents looks sweet! Am I just overthinking it? Thoughts appreciated.

Julian Yun I’m wondering the same thing. Black and white would match with anything but this is by far my favorite. I love the orange and tried it on yesterday. I didn’t want to take it off!

Julian Yun I have the white dial with black bezel and live it. I think it’s a classic combination that should stand the test of time. Wait until you see how accurate this movement is! I also have a new Seamaster 300, chrome dial. They are both stunning.

C Miller At my request, a well-known watchmaker in Greenwich CT, who services Omega pieces at an Omega AD, analyzed the differences between the 9300 and the 9900. For all intents and purposes, there are none. Omega originally purposed the 9300 for the ‘57, which required that certain very minor adjustments be made (to fit in the smaller case). A number of the movements were so adjusted and they are now dedicated to the ‘57; it would be a waste of money to toss those out just to repurpose a similar number of 9900s (which are basically the same movement) for the ‘57. So they won’t. Don’t get hung up on Metas Certification. Metas is not a Swiss governmental agency; it’s a private concern that entered into a joint venture agreement with Swatch for marketing purposes. Their certification is smart marketing (note that nobody else uses it), but it is, basically, ‘marketing’ (look at it as Omega’s answer to the Rolex “Superlative Chronometer” certification). All of which is my way of saying that the 9300 (which has the same amagnetic silicone hairspring and power assembly as the 9900) and 9900 are basically the same movement. So go ahead and get yourself a ‘57 now!
