Absolutely brilliant performance by Bella Ramsey who nailed that social awkwardness and painful insecurity with such honest clarity. Goodness does she say so much with her eyes. Also a great performance by Molly Wright who was a conduit for Jane to slowly emerge from her shell. It needed a slightly restrained sensitivity and she did that well. The film created a melancholy atmosphere at first that slowly eased as the story moved on. Loved it....

She's going to be one of those who has an elongated road to the top because she doesn't look a certain way and will get certain types of gritty roles, but eventually her talent should take her toward an Oscar if she picks her roles well during her peak. Best under 18 actor I've seen at the moment? There was that Wolverine girl who stars in HDM who has gained a reputation, Bella has a bit part yet outshines her and everyone else, the acting levels are so clear in that.

Tbh I would not have checked this out if it was not for the presence of Bella "Ellie" Ramsey in the cast. I am glad I did. A melancholy, but ultimately hopeful tale. Yes, my focus was on Bella, brilliant, but there were strong performance all round, "Dad" was nicely stoic, and Molly Wright was great as Trisha another introvert opening out.
