About the song "Rechenka": This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. You really need to look into her back story. At a very young age she was abused by her birth mother. Her mother tried to drown her in the bath tub. Starved & beat her. Broke her collarbone and abandoned her in the freezing cold where she was found and ended up in an orphanage where she was adopted by a lady who worked there. Had major speech problems, probably due to the trauma. Was given singing lessons to help with her speech, and she has been at it ever since. Now has a loving family. I believe there is a documentary on KZbin about her. She absolutely lives every single song she sings. Enjoy your journey. She is adicting, in a good way.

One of my favorites by her is from the "Show Mask Go On" entitled "Oh' It's Not Yet Evening" kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZe3moShf9d_n5I. It's an over 300 year old folk song about a Cossack warrior who dreams of his death in an imminent battle. On Diana's face you see sadness, anxiety and pain of the soul of the Cossack warrior. One would swear she borrowed that soul to perform the song. I'm not sure how many people appreciate the emotional gasps she produces here that absolutely melt me.

Two incredible feats during the song. The ‘slide’, from the high note down to the lowest in one smooth slide without breaking. The repeated yodelling, which is not easy to do, but being lifted up by two of the dancers and placed in the boat while not missing a beat! That’s her proud mom with the glasses backstage. Igor Krotoy, one of the judges who became her mentor was the first one to hit the buzzer, he was the last one to hit the buzzer in Wicked Game as he was waiting for a pause in the song so as not to interrupt her. Many reactors criticized him for waiting to the last minute in Wicked Game. He was being polite as he was well aware of Diana’s talent by then.

We always say she will go on to do great things... sometimes forgetting she started out doing great things. This song is a prime example of that. Without a doubt I say it's the best performance by a child singer in a contest I have ever seen. Some people, no matter how dark it is around them just have the light inisde them shining like a sun. Such is Diana. To have that power, tone and clarity at 14? And to match it with showmanship and stage presence? Nuts is the right word.
