In the liner notes of the Captain & Tennille anthology Ultimate Collection: The Complete Hits, Tennille explains how her work on Pink Floyd's album gained her at least one new fan: "I went to see the Pink Floyd concert at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles. There was a 15-year-old boy sitting in front of me who recognized me. He turned around and snottily said, 'What are YOU doing here?' So I told him I sang on the album. He ran off to find a friend who had brought the LP to the show, and looked at the back to see if my name was really on there. A few minutes later, he came back and apologetically said, 'Can I have your autograph?'"

The Captain & Tennille were very famous for several years then kinda faded off the radio around 1981. Toni Tennille is a very talented singer. Daryl Dragon (Captain) died a few years ago.
@uncabuzz1183 жыл бұрын
This was a resurgence for 60's singer/songwriter Neil Sedaka who wrote the song. As the song trails out Tennille sings..."Sedaka is back"....Da, da,da,da. Toni's hubby Daryl Dragon was also a keyboardist for the Beach Boys.This song was a gigantic hit. GIGANTIC!

They were a married couple before sadly getting a divorce after 39 years of marriage in 2014. Sadly in 2019, "Captain" passed away though Tennille said that their marriage was not good, she was at his side when he passed away. This was their debut single in 1975 and not only did it reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart where it stayed there for four consecutive weeks, but it was also the #1 song of 1975. Darryl "Captain" Dragon was the keyboard player for "The Beach Boys" from 1967 to 1972 & it was lead singer Mike Love that gave him his nickname.

❤️❤️🥰🥰❤️❤️ I hope YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Great song choice! listen carefully to the end of the song, and Toni Tenille sings “Sedaka is back …” which meant NEIL SEDAKA, a singer/songwriter from the 50’s/60’s who wrote MANY hit songs; one in particular being “BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO”!!! This song is A MUST FOR YOUR PLAY LIST!!! ❤️❤️🥰🥰❤️❤️ Much move to you both, Always! ~ Laura 💞

Notice at the end she replaces a da da da da with "Sedaka is back". That's a tribute to Neil Sedaka who co-wrote the song. He had been laying low for many years after an amazing music career where he wrote over five hundred songs and produced hundreds more for other artists. That song was number one for the entire year of 1975. Toni Tennille was the only female to ever be part of the Beach Boys. She toured with them for a year. She and Daryl Dragon were married. Daryl passed in 2019.

I sang this song to the top of my lungs when I was little! Great memories! Yes, they were married. They were crazy popular at the time, the 70's. They even had an extremely short lived variety show on TV. There were a lot of variety shows throughout the 70's, they ( the variety shows) fell out of popularity by the time the 80's hit. "Do That To Me One More Time" was another big hit for Captain and Tennille

Captain And Tennille Real Name: Captain & Tennille Profile: American act of great popularity in the mid to late 1970's. Their heyday was hemmed in between their two #1 hits: Love Will Keep Us Together, the first single from their debut album of the same name, rose to the top spot in the summer of 1975 and has remained their signature song. They reached the top of the charts again with 1979's Do That To Me One More Time, which hit #1 in early 1980. In addition, they hosted their own television show on ABC for one season in 1976/77, but quit despite solid ratings to focus on recording and touring. In July of 1976, they were invited by First Lady Betty Ford to perform in the East Room of the White House in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II and President Gerald Ford during the country's bicentennial celebration. After a long journey, Queen Elizabeth fell asleep during their show. A husband and wife duo, they divorced in 2014 after a 39 year marriage.

Love those images of people in the seventies in this video. This was the #1 song in the US in 1975. We heard it everywhere, really popular. My ten-year-old self even had a copy of this album, with the two of them posing with bulldogs on the cover. They had a few other hits after this one, through the end of the seventies - "The Way I Want to Touch You" (1975), "Lonely Night" (1976), "Shop Around" (1976), "Muskrat Love" (1976), and "Do That To Me One More Time" (1979), most of them covers, but in my opinion none were as good as this one, though their cover of the Miracles' 1960 "Shop Around" runs a close second.
