Goalkeepers will go up for attacking freekicks and corners late in a game if the team is losing by one goal or sometimes if they are drawing in very important games. They do it in order to just get more people in the box and hopefully draw a defender away from someone else, very rarely the goalkeepers actually get on the end of one of the set pieces and on the even rarer occasion, they actually manage to score! It is one of my favourite things to see on a football pitch!

All the types of spin/curve/dip: The curve on the Roberto Carlos freekick, is from spin. You can put side spin on the ball by striking across the ball with the upper/outside of the foot (which is what was done by Carlos) , this creates a violent arc in the ball flight but can hard to do accurately. Juninho also was a master of this technique The other way is with the instep and a "wrapping" motion of the foot as you strike through the ball, this causes the rotation and is easier to gain accuracy, but is harder to do from distance. David Beckham was a master of these There is another way to apply spin and that is vertically so , forward or back spin, Top/Forward spin creates dip, is hard to apply to a shot from the ground, and is more commonly seen on shots from volley, back spin creates a "pitched" style ball flight and stunts the roll of the ball as it lands (commonly used for passing). You might see both vertical types of spin on passes and shots , but back spin is more common on passes, and top sin on shots. Some good examples: Passes: Steven Gerrard - lots of great great top spin passes, Andre Pirlo - great back spin passes, Shots: Zinadine Zidane- back spin penalty goal , great example, Wayne Rooney - many top spin volleys scored, Gheorgi Hagi - could create top spin from the floor, the best dip and curve I have seen on freekicks, Juninho and Hagi the 2 best freekick takers I have ever seen, There is also another way to create ball movement and that is using no spin at all but causing the ball to deform in certain ways. The most famous way is the "Knuckle ball" which Cristiano Ronaldo does quite a lot, and other players (this creates curl and dip from the ground) This technique is about striking through the ball as true as possible but making contact with the ball with the knuckle of the big toe, causing deforimation at the point of impact, which causes the curve and dip , and sometimes it will change direction in the air. Knuckle ball is pretty much always used on shooting free kicks only. Cristiano Ronaldo and Juninho masters of this Lool that was pretty indepth

In the case of Roberto Carlos it also helps if the wind is gusting in the right direction.
@Validboy
@Validboy 2 жыл бұрын
Similar to a curveball in baseball for these mericans.. I think spinning it sideways makes the air pass by faster on one side than the other and the result is the arc, however it can be helped or hurt by the wind too ofcause..
@Luiz-oy6tc
@Luiz-oy6tc 2 жыл бұрын
@@Validboy You've described the phenomenon precisely. Just for reference, It's called Magnus Effect, a consequence of the Bernoulli's equation in fluid dynamics.
@Validboy
@Validboy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Luiz-oy6tc Yep, The Magnus effect. That sounds accurate. Loved doing a bit of work on the old 'Magnus effect' when I was young.. Facinating work..
@Fez135
@Fez135 3 жыл бұрын
The curve on balls is down to the Magnus effect. As it spins it creates a pressure differential across the ball so it moves towards its rotation i.e. If it's rotating clockwise it will move right, anticlockwise it will move left. The same thing applies in any direction you can get it to spin, so backspin makes it rise and topspin makes it dip. If you can hit it like a knuckleball and keep it from rotating then it's at the mercy of the air it moves through and kinda wobbles unpredictably. It's actually really difficult to kick a football without it curving because your foot usually comes at the ball on an angle which will inevitably cause it to spin in the air. The trick is getting it to spin how you want it to, and as much as you want it to.

At the first goal Roberto Carlos kicked the ball with his left foot by giving it a contraclockwise spin..that´s why that ball had that kind of curve..he had to hit the ball with his instep exactly at the center in order to give the ball that power/velocity which it had but with a leg-movement from left to right in order to give the ball that contraclockwise spin..that´s how he had done it..and giving the ball spin with the instep is technical highest level. He also could have hit the ball with his outside of the foot (that´s how it is usually done) that would had made the same curve direction (even a way more extreme curve) but then the ball wouldn´t had been that fast..He probably would have done that when he wouldn´t had been that far away from the goal...when he would have played the ball with the inside of the foot the curve would have had an clockwise spin curving in the opposite direction...but for kicking the ball in the right corner of the goal while kicking the ball with the iside of the foot he would had to let the ball passing the human wall at the left side instead of the right side. For the right foot that all happens vice versa = hit the ball with the inside of the foot = contraclockwise spin = ball is curving to the left/outside of the foot = clockwise spin = ball curving to the right....straight shots are done with the instep hitting the ball at the center.

@michaelgrabner8977
@michaelgrabner8977 3 жыл бұрын
@@JB-gn8yh I really don´t care if he didn´t hit the ball right or wrong and if the wind helped...because that has nothing to do with my statement... If he wouldn´t had kicked the ball wrong - which can happen even to a professional player - then he would had kicked the balll right and then he would have done it how I discribed.. So therefore your statement is in the actual matter of my statement where I described the ball technique for "How to kick a ball in order to give him spin in order to curve the trajectory" totally useless and worthless and just showed quite clearly that you didn´t play Football in a Club (no matter if on professional level or amateur level) by yourself but which I did for many years....You are - according to your statement - just a "football match-watcher" with not the slightest clue about actual "ball technique"... So please never ever talk to me about football again...because I do not discuss such things with a "Game-Watcher" who clearly doesn´t know how to kick a ball but thinks he has to say something about that matter... because everyone who also played Football in a Club and got therefore educated in ball technique wouldn´t had disagreed to my statement..

That goalkeeper was playing in the, world cup for Columbia when he saved that shot with the back of his feet. So yes it was i vital game, if he didnt pull it off Columbia would have been out of the world cup, and he probably would have been executed back home

dudes i love you both so much, i love watching two dudes from the US admitting that so called soccer is the best of all. i know you dont have to say it, i can see it in your honest reactions and i am thankful for that. man i love our football and in the past i was into american football because everything from the US is the greatest and the .... whatever. i have learned that this is so far from true and you both helped a lot with bringing the truth to the people so they can see the true greatness of sport. Football, Soccer, Fussball, call it what ever you want but there will never be anything close to the beauty of the real Football and their Fans. i thank you so much for showing the dudes over seas in the US how beautiful live can be. i am so disgusted to hear on the other hand that everything is about money and nothing else. i cant believe you guys are supporting a system like that. it makes my vomit !!! but thats what you end up with if you give the power to the wrong people who only can think about profit

5:00 Nah if George didnt already scored the conversation would go something like this: "You need a goal? Hold my beer." "But you have no beer." "Thats the problem." Dude said himself that at some point in his career he was only good when he was drunk.

Nice one lads, there are countless football moments to see, especially if you go back in time ! I wouldn't even know where to start !! Most of the ones you saw here were contemporary really, some a little while back. I was at the game where the Colombian goalkeeper did the back flip thing, it goes down as one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in an international match ! Yes it was a friendly against England, if I remember he spent a lot of time dribbling the ball around too ! a real character ! Great to see that again ! Keep up the good work !!!!

U asked in of the Ultras videos who is Zlatan, bcoz they chanted that his nose is off-side (indeed it is). 3:48 - This is Zlatan, a legend. Extremly talented, bold, rude and the ultimate troll for his team mates and enemies (there Zlatan Ibrahimowic compilations how he trolls other players, refs and fans hahah). In short: Zlatan is the biggest (boldest) football personality that ever existed.

guys, the difficulty in Roberto Carlos's goal more than the effect is the power, giving effect to the ball is not difficult, the difficult thing is to do it with that power. If you want to meet another great player, who possibly would have been number 1 in the world if he had not coincided playing with Messi, in addition to playing in the same team as Barcelona, search on google for INIESTA, the best midfielder in the world at the same time Messi.

Renée Higuita's scorpion kick is perhaps the most legendary "save" of all time. And yeah, it wasn't a really important game, it was a friendly between England and Colombia, plus the referee had already stopped the game. Not sure if Higuita actually was aware of the referee's decision. And ... You said if it's an important game, you don't fuck around ... Lol, you surely don't know anything about Higuita, the man was crazy and famous for his antics. Costed Colombia a vital goal in 1990's round of 16 match against Cameroon. Higuita thoyght he could mess around and dribble attackers, lost the ball to Roger Milla and bam, Colombia out of the world cup. Dude is still loved in South America !

Spin, like in pool or snooker. Teams often have an informal agreement that their goalie is going to get to score a goal two or three times in a season. So they'll arrange a play whereby he comes out from their goal to go for it. And of course if games have to be decided by penalty, goalies can also volunteer for a penalty kick.

Players put bend/curve/topspin on the ball with their foot in a similar way to a baseball pitcher using his hand/fingers to manipulate different pitches. Want to swerve the ball out to the right, and back left? Come across the back to right side of the ball, and follow through with a swivel of the hips and power. It's hard to explain when it's kinda 2nd nature to do it. Oh, and ball awareness is beyond key to football. 22 players on a 110x70yd field, and only one ball. The entire game, and every aspect of it, are based on the location/possession of the ball, so watch ya ball! Lol

7:22 Do you actually not know that match? Its definitely like Top 3 Story in Football in the last Century. Also 7:45 Goalkeeper sometimes do that, when it is a very important game, and they absolutely have to score a goal, if not they are out of the tournament or whatever. Then when they get a corner in the last seconds of the game, they just run infront of goal to help to score, because if they score they are safe, and if they lose the ball it doesnt matter anyway because they just lose, because they did not score a goal
