I have to disagree, you only have to look at the highlights of any player from that era and look at how lapse the defending was then compared to now. Look at the second goal he scores against England and how much space he has when he picks the ball up then look how garbage the tackling is, with players diving in making it much easier to skip past them leaving them for dead where as now teams press much higher up the pitch and they don't dive in giving them the chance to recover when they are beaten. The players behind the pressing players also play a lot more compact giving running players so much less room to work. Messi has a lot less room to work with yet still manages to maintain control, beat players and make enough space to shoot.

(just got to the point in the vid where you made the same comparison to Jordan)

Fun fact about messi. He never runs for the first 10mins on avg of every game. He just watches the opposition, maps what every player is doing and how they play. Finds a teams weakness then raises his hand to his teammates to signal he's ready to begin. Got another one, can't remember who it was but they just signed with barca, at the first training session he was walking out and messi just arrived on the pitch aswell. The ball got knocked to messi, he gave a cheeky smile and charged at the full barca def. Took it past 5 and slid it in, he jogged by with the same cheeky smile and waving a fist. He then stopped and tied his boots because he wasn't ready to start when he got the ball.

Heres the problem with that year's and years in training: if you are really lucky your career as a professional football player start at the age of 16 and end in the early/mid 30s. So you have only 15 to 20 years to archive the best you'll ever show at the pitch (of you are lucky and don't get any big injuries). And of course you have players like CR7 or RL9 who became so good with training but if you don't have the level of talent Messi has, you'll never be close to Lionel. That's why there never was anyone as good as him. [edit.] Pele, in his generation, was similar to what Messi is today BUT if you compare prime Pele to prime Messi, Messi would win easily bc football nowadays is way faster and way more technical than it used to be in Peles prime.

His coach said, if you score two goals tomorrow I'll allow you the extra days, the next day he had scored the two "required" goals in the first 20 minutes or so. He ended scoring a third, and by then was telling the coach that he had to leave because his plane was leaving in an hour. He loved parting so much he decided to leave FC Barcelona because of it, went back to Brazil, played for Flamengo and other teams from the city of Rio de Janerio.

what most ppl dont understand, the others on the pitch are not a carneval troup, they know how to play the game aswell..... also as a goalkeeper you are not afraid of anybody, i played goali for 25 years in minor german leagues and you are so into the situation you dont think about who is shooting etc. you just do your thing, you are not afraid! goalies are its own kind of breed in football. also watch his freekicks, its unbelievable how consistent he is with those!

Messi is the GOAT, but also check out Maradona, Johan Cruyff, and Pelé, they are up there as well. Others well with checking out are Ronaldo (the Brazilian, not Cristiano), Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, and Denis Bergkamp. I have to say also that I loved the Brazil side from the 82 World Cup with the likes of Socrates, Falcão, Eder, and Zico. They eventually went out to Italy, but their football was so amazing to watch!!!
