The story is, Prince didn't really involve himself in any rehersals, he just said "I'll play when its my time".. No-one else in the band knew what he was about to bring, but they trusted.. And deservedly so! And Prince brought one of the best live guitar solos (in my opinion) onto that stage. He keeps looking at the other band members, smiling, asking "is this good?", "should I keep going?", and the response was "hell yesss!!"! The look of joy on Dhani's face too, he knew what a special moment this was... I can't remember the amount of times I've watched this. What a musician! : ) Happy New Year to you all!
@Cosmo-Kramer17 күн бұрын
I love Prince, but this was a bit too hot-doggy for my tastes. When you're sharing the stage with several other legends you shouldn't endeavor to upstage them, and that's exactly what he did, driven by anger that he'd recently been left off the Rolling Stone Top 100 Guitarists List. It was also disrespectful to not rehearse with them. For me, Jeff Lynne is the highlight of this performance.
@oskarobit17 күн бұрын
He was called to do the song and he liked the idea, but he never got a chance to rehearse because the guy next to Jeff Lynne (from Oingo Bongo, I can't remember his name now) stepped on his solos several times during rehearsal. So he agreed with Petty that he would play the final solo. Then he left the stage. Petty was the only one in the room who trusted Prince because they were friends, the others had never spoken to him and didn't know much about the Purple One. Ferrone (excellent drummer) approached Prince to say hello and was impressed when Prince said ‘I know who you are’, even more so when Ferrone heard him play a riff on one of his own songs. Just look at Danny's face at the beginning and how he begins to relax and even laugh. Everyone was more and more surprised as they experienced the epicness of the moment. Prince turned a bland tribute into a glorious and entertaining tribute; historic. Prince was, is and will be a legend.
