16:34 scenes like this are why I'm not scared when Critical Role talks about adapting their story, changing things, taking risks...because when the moment comes, they go straight to the source. Because after FORTY sessions of the Conclave arc, more than a hundred hours at the table, played over the better part of a year, when Matt Mercer asked Liam "How do you want to do this?", Liam (as Vax) said, "I hear the voice of my mother in the morning." @DelightfullyMADDАй бұрын
Hmm, so in regards to Pike and her 'casting aside her Faith', are we sure she's operating without Divine intervention now? I have a bit of a theory that Xerxes pushed Pike towards apostasy because the Whispered One may have specific designs for Pike... and Pike's the only character that has had direct, albeit brief, interaction with it (back in season 1 during her communion with the Everlight, she met him in that dark dreamscape void she goes to) My personal theory is that the Whispered One somehow made a very subtle connection with her, but her faith in the Everlight kept it from doing anything... then all of a sudden you have Xerxes who goes out of his way to shake her faith while basically telling her to 'put faith in herself'. She's starting to do that, using her blood (likely she has some kind of aaismar or celestial heritage), but her divine power may very well still be coming from a god... but not the god she might think. Also remember that Xerxes gave her 'his symbol' ostensibly to let them get out of Dis... but that wasn't Xerxes symbol at all, nor was it a symbol of Asmodeus/Lord of Torment... it was The Whispered One's symbol (the same one Delilah carved into her skin during her ritual to bring back Sylas in their backstory and to summon the Whispered One during the climax of season 1) The Whispered One (Vecna officially but can't be used due to copyright bs) is a God of undeath and necromancy... but also Secrets and Deception. So wouldn't it be interesting if Pike's arc could be something to do with this? I could, of course, be completely wrong... but it seems odd that only Pike so far has had anything directly to do with The Whispered One thus far
@VBaneАй бұрын
My theory is that Pike is a descendant to a certain character from Downfall, which is why her blood and soul are so special and interesting to Xerkses both as Asmodeus's champion and a disciple of Vecna.
@DelightfullyMADDАй бұрын
@@VBane That would definitely work to. Either way, given that Pike didn't really get an "arc" in the actual campaign, they definitely seem to be building something, and it's not a coincidence that Pike briefly met The Whispered One, has 'special blood', and was specifically targeted by Xerxes to shake her faith after she was warned by the Everlight that her purity would be used for wicked ends. Regardless of what the actual source of her heritage is... yes that makes her of great interest to The Whispered One and their followers And, as far as I know, Pike never discarded Xerxes "symbol" that he gave her, which again is very obviously the same symbol Delilah used during various rituals. It's not Xerxes' symbol as far as I can tell, and it's certainly not Asmodeus' symbol, and we know Xerxes seems to have become a follower of the Whispered One... so my guess is that because Pike has some kind of access or connection to the plane the Whispered One is trapped in... she'll be the conduit for his return in some fashion... but they had to break her faith in order to make that happen, and now they've successfully done just that with Pike first being willing to set aside her faith for her friends (back in episode 4 where she offered her faith in order to play Xerxes again... he didn't accept it, but he didn't need to because her willingness to give it up was already enough), and now in this episode where she actively tore the Everlight's symbol off and threw it aside... yeah, Pike's still gonna have cleric powers, but my guess is that they'll still be supplied by a god, just a different god... and she'll be led to believe it's all just her own power... Vecna is all about secrets after all, and what better agent than an agent who doesn't even realize what they are?
@longforgotten4823Ай бұрын
This was written long before downfall was even a consideration.
@ParticleZonАй бұрын
Well, The Whispered One has the "I'm his blood" motto and she's been doing blood stuff. Which makes me wonder whether Pike has something unique in her bloodline or whether she arrived at Zerxus' table with a pre-existing connection to TWO. So then all he needs to do is sow the seeds to weaken her connection with The Everlight. I'm really enjoying this all-new storyline for Pike. I can't wait to see what they come up with for Yasha.

There is a cool little detail in the campaign, dont remember which fight but Raishan and VM were in the same battle against one of the other Dragons, Raishan cast chain lighting (a spell jumping between enemies by spellcasters definition - iE friendly fire off) - and HIT VM MEMBERS after the spell bounced off the main target. And I always felt that was a great moment of characterization. In that moment they werent actively enemies, but both sides pretty much knew they would turn against each other after Thordak was gone, so if Raishan could have a plausible deniability moment of hurting a future enemy she would do it. Oops sorry VM magis is magic and that spell is supposed to bounce, what can you do?

With how Ripley got even more scheming and dangerous in TLOVM I kind of really want her and Raishan to meet. Both would try to manipulate the other for her own gains. I think they're going to use the fact that Vax saw Kash's soul pass on, but didn't see or sense Percy's cross over, as the impetuous to have a conversation like: guys, something's off and I think we need to go get Percy's soul back (from Hell???)

In the campaign, Keyleth never trusted Raishan and she (and Vax) unilaterally broke their alliance with Raishan the moment Thordak was out of the picture, which made it less cut and dry whether she was going to betray them or not; here her ill intent is more clear and Keyleth gets to be more rational and reasonable. Like, Raishan has always been sus, but I think the intention is that we are supposed to side with Kiki and not, y'know, the chaotic evil death-lizard.

It actually was clear cut in the campaign, Raishan shot first. (Chain lighting hit Vax, or atempted to during the fight)
@radicaladzАй бұрын
@user-hs9lq9ue4r - was it? I feel like there was a decision made on their part that tipped the scale, that the lightning was simple collateral damage/unavoidable friendly fire, but up to that point it was on the knife edge between going one way or another. Could be a "Han/Greedo shot first" thing or I just misremembered - it's been a while tbf.

Matt did say on Reddit that it was intentional. But in the context of the story and not in the meta sense it was still vax and keyleth that did the ‘betraying’. Raishan certainly would have if she got the chance though. I don’t know how I feel about what they’ve done with raishan here. Her goal was still to kill thordak and she needed them to help so why would she hinder them with the blocked off passage? Maybe she needed him out of his lair to be able to get the body because: magic? I don’t really know. In the context of keyleth I get where this is coming from, it’s good character development for her to have more trust in her instincts and if raishan didn’t ever do anything against them then she would have nothing to learn.

I'm 100% confident that, while exposing his plan, Grog was possessed by the Thunderlord. That's my in-lore reason 😂 And i just noticed something: the paralell between Grog's and Pike's developpement. Grog, the barbarian fighting to enjoy himself, found his strength in his friends. Pike, devoted to help others, found her strength in herself. But since it pulls her away from her faith, i'm really excited to see where this is going for her. We're eating well, Criters, and lunch in not over yet 😄

So while grog is an absolute tank scanlan could take hits pretty well, by level 20 he had the third highest raw hp behind grog and Percy. 4th if you account for the fact that keyleth has basically infinite hit points.

I have watched this episode across various reaction channels (because I dont have prime video). Just a thought that maybe Pike throwing the symbol of the everlight away isn't her throwing away her faith, but rather her reliance to it. The funniest thing for me among all the heartbreak, and the surprise over what's being changed, is that in earlier seasons of LOVM I spent time on various channels trying to help non-D&D players understand clerics really are powerless without their connection to their deity, that they don't have *inborn* powers generally speaking. But that's all being upended I guess here to some degree and all my old comments on reaction channels or in discord with friends not into TTRPGS just look SILLY now. I still stand by my notes that the chaotic evil green dragon was always only on her own side, with her own mechanations, and certainly never needed Vox Machina to survive and probably had a plan B for if they failed.

@dannybob42Ай бұрын
They don't call her the Diseased Deceiver for nothing... Kash! Poor boy done dirty, he survived in the campaign! Seems they had to show Vax someone passing on with the Matron. But Thordak falls, technically Vax's kill is the only kill that has the same killer in the show and the table; Vax killed Brimscythe, Vex killed Vorugal and Grog killed Umbrasyl on the table but in the show Grog kills Brimscythe, Vorugal died from Vex/Keyleth's combo and Kima's eye crush but it's mainly Keyleth's thorns that finishes it, and Umbrasyl was killed by Scanlan.
@shaskusmasАй бұрын
There's plenty of kills that go to the same character in the show. The Rakshasa to Vax, Kiki and the Deuregar, Grog and the Bullette, Vex and the guy hitting on her in Professor Ander's house, Scanlan and that p*ssy, most of Percy's kills, Kiki and the evil trees, Grog and Kevdak, Vox Machina and horses in general, prolly more stuff.

I don't like the ending. Why does Raishan just suddenly go "bwhahaha, turns out I'm evil". She didn't do anything other than take Thordak. She didn't have to "reveal" anything. Even could have just said "I'm taking Thordak to try and cure myself, bye", and no one would care. But instead she has to paint a big target on herself to the people who killed 4 dragons now. I think she realized that Keyleth was still going to be a threat to her. Partially because she knows Keyleth will never forgive her for the people of Pyrah who died. Perhaps, if Keyleth hadn't gone alone to apologize, Raishan would have been more cagey.

ok here we are... the sanitization of Keyleith went to far in this one. Not only is the show ignoring that Kiki murdered innocent children in the fight against the Emperor, now they changed Raishan to make Kiki look better. In the Campaign, Raishan and Vox Machina had a deal, Raishan would help them kill Thordak, than use a "Speak with the Dead" Type of spell on him to get the cure he promised. Raishan never betrayed them. Keyleith on the other hand, proved herself less trustworthy than the Deseased Deceiver and betrayed Raishan. This btw should have been the end of the Campaign. Raishan didn't flee, she fought back. The only reason a near Full Powered Raishan didn't wipe out a half dead Vox Machina was... because Matt choose not to do it and let her flee after almost killing them.
@hhylobates4098Ай бұрын
Hey now, Keyleth accidentally killing a child and having that haunt her for ages does not make her a child murderer. Even if she never really seemed to learn the right lesson from that experience. Everything else pretty much tracks, its not quite a betrayal of Raishan when the group had bluntly told her their alliance only meant they would kill Thordak before her instead of after, more a betrayal of her team by instigating the fight in that moment without their support. I'd been hoping that Kerrek missing from Westruun just meant he was moved to Emon, as a hero of the survivors living under Thordaks rule, the reality check Keyelth needed, and the most fitting person to take the final strike again the conclave as a representative of all the average people this fight has been for, more important than revenge for the already dead. Keyelth could have still had her big Feeblemind moment, AFTER being humbled by nearly getting her team killed. But since Kerrek hasn't appeared theyre definitely just going to give all the glory to Keyleth in an undeserved "She was right!!!" moment.
